Cobi Mayson knows exactly who Hadley is to him the moment he sees her for the very first time. That doesn’t mean it will be easy for him to convince her to take a chance on him. During a visit to Lydia's sister's and brother-in-law's apple farm in Upstate New York, the two women get into a good deal of trouble. While the men run errands in town, the women go beyond harvesting apples with the children, instead removing rotten tree branches they'd each been told to leave alone. Besides which, they get so caught up in their project removing the rotten tree branches, they lose track of the couples' five children, who wander off. When Sam and Charlie get back to the apple farm, each wife must face an irate husband, intent upon spanking her for misbehavior.

After celebrating their sixth wedding anniversary, Lydia and Charlie decide it's time to negotiate their spanking contract, to avoid a repeat of the problems they faced the previous Christmas. In the meanwhile, a fellow actor develops a dangerous obsession with Lydia, enough so she must consider giving up a much-needed acting job. Lydia keeps the man's dangerous and obsessive behavior from Charlie, until the second time Charlie learns Lydia's been dishonest with him - at risk to herself. It becomes necessary to add it to the spanking contract.

Upon Charlie and Lydia's return from Waikiki, Charlie needs to leave town again briefly to take his mother to the doctor in Chicago. In his absence, Lydia signs up for skydiving classes despite such activity being forbidden under their spanking contract. Then, during a welcome-home party for Charlie, Lydia goes swimming while intoxicated, a huge issue after what happened in Waikiki. His suggestion for dealing with the recent, habitual misbehavior is a 48-hour "spanking retreat".

Charlie and Lydia continue to face long separations due to Charlie's blossoming career. To help Lydia make better choices, and stay focused on why doing so is important even in Charlie's absence, the two add "just-because" [later to be known as maintenance] spankings to their marriage. Lydia struggles with accepting them, since it seems so unfair to her to be spanked to the point of tears when she's done nothing wrong, even if the spanking ceases right after she begins crying.

Charlie and Lydia move to a nicely-appointed apartment suite in Lake View, Chicago, now that Charlie's career seems well-launched. Then Lydia learns she's expecting their first child. The two are ecstatic. Yet, in addition to all the adjustments any young couple must make in getting through a first pregnancy and learning what it means to be a family of three, rather than a couple, Charlie and Lydia must learn how and whether their "spanking marriage" can work during a pregnancy.

Charlie and Lydia must deal with their eldest child discovering their spanking contract, answering his understandable questions, while maintaining their privacy and ensuring Craig doesn't start thinking of his mother as being treated like a child. Adding to the season's difficulties, Charlie and his family go on a long overdue vacation that includes his brother, Robert, and Robert's family. But Lydia, who celebrated her 40th birthday, wants to do something exciting to celebrate, and what she's got her heart set on - white-water rafting - is something she and Charlie agreed to add to their spanking contract as being too dangerous. What will Charlie do when she forces the issue and refuses to submit to an earned punishment spanking?

Young marrieds Lydia and Charlie buy the first car either has ever owned. Lydia manages to have a minor accident parallel parking, but then reveals to Charlie she also got a speeding ticket the same day. Furious over her reckless behavior, Charlie cautions her that any more dangerous driving on her part will earn a trip over his knee. All seems well for a few weeks until Lydia is involved in a serious accident, caused by falling asleep at the wheel.

Charlie and Lydia face the challenge of finding the necessary privacy to continue their "spanking marriage" with an active, curious toddler in their lives, and while Charlie films on location in remote areas of California, having brought his family with him for the location shoot. They deal with what to do when their two-year-old son sees part of a punishment spanking Charlie must give Lydia, then promptly the next morning, asks the questions a bright, curious child would ask.

As Charlie films in and around Madrid, Craig and Lydia join him, along with Craig's adored and adoring nanny, Maybelle. All seems to be going smoothly until Lydia and Charlie have a minor disagreement about building a treehouse for Craig. And Charlie must warn Lydia - as part of their spanking contract - to leave the project to him.

Young married couple Charlie and Lydia, contend with a series of hair-raising incidents in which Lydia falls asleep smoking, endangering herself, and numerous other people in their flat. The second time it happens, Charlie feels forced to give her a spanking, believing he's already warned her about the behavior, but Lydia is equally convinced he's being unfair, and never warned her about the behavior he's threatening to spank her over. She nearly ends up getting a non-consensual spanking, leaving her furious with Charlie, and almost rupturing their marriage.

Charlie and Lydia face a serious health crisis when Lydia starts having persistent, debilitating headaches. The specialists they consult seem as mystified as to the cause of the headaches and cure for them as Lydia and Charlie themselves. Without talking it over with Charlie, Lydia doesn't follow through with yet another specialist consult in LA, and starts coping with her headaches by swimming, a great choice, and self-medicating with alcohol, a not-so-great choice.

Lydia and Craig join Charlie for another location shoot, this time in Rome, Italy, and they settle down to life in a well-appointed, rented villa. But Lydia soon gets crosswise of Charlie on safety issues, ranging from her inability to handle their family guard dog to her not being a proficient swimmer. Both problem behaviors are covered in their spanking contract, and Lydia's misbehavior - however well-intentioned - once again forces Charlie to deal with her with a firm hand, or risk having Lydia and he himself lose respect for him.

Right before Thanksgiving, she ends up repeating one old mistake that earned her the very first punishment spanking she received at Charlie's firm hand. She withholds the information from Charlie until a holiday party, where she must come clean or be "outed" by one of the people who made life so difficult during Charlie's last absence. The two end up not just arguing, but trying to work through the just and appropriate way to punish serious lapses in judgment over safety, where Lydia's not merely been warned, but actually punished before.

After the death of a beloved aunt, Lydia must take a road trip to Chicago, and runs into dangerous trouble on the way, when no one will rent her a room as a single female, traveling alone. Her choice as to how to handle the situation backfires terribly, with Charlie, who's forced to travel by bus to Cleveland to get her out of police custody. The two argue over whether Lydia's recklessness merits a spanking, and by the time the two get to the funeral in Chicago, both humor and more misadventures ensue.

Charlie and Lydia, fresh from negotiating their spanking contract, face a new challenge when Lydia becomes ill, but tries saving money by not seeing the doctor, then not following through with the medicines, and advice given her. When Charlie finds out, he insists she see the doctor. Her stubbornness about the issue, coupled with her lying to Charlie, leads to some painful conflicts for the couple, as they struggle with the fair way to handle what Lydia's done wrong. Charlie and she must decide upon new additions to their spanking contract....
