The Patchwork Girl, a truly sunny and optimistic creature, sets out into the incomparable Land of Oz to help her friend Ojo to find a magic potion in order to save his Uncle. They need five things for the potion, and these things are very strange indeed, almost as strange as everything that will happen!

"The Misplaced Battleship" is a sci-fi short story by author Harry Harrison, published in 1960. James Bolivar DiGriz, alias "Slippery Jim" and "The Stainless Steel Rat", is a fictional character and the protagonist of a series of comic science fiction novels by the same author. "Slippery Jim" is the listener's wonderfully sly, funny and resourceful hero in this entertaining and amusing work; where he has to investigate and - hopefully! - solve the case of a dangerous battleship floating around unaccounted for.

"Dorothy and the Wizard in Oz" is the fourth book (among many!) set in the Land of Oz by author L. Frank Baum, published in 1908. Written shortly after the 1906 San Francisco earthquake and around the time Baum moved to California, the book starts with an earthquake in California. Dorothy and others - such as Eureka (her cat), Zeb (her cousin) - are riding a buggy being pulled by a cab-horse named Jim, when suddenly they are swallowed up by cracks in the earth, and fall into an underground cavern, where they begin their adventures, including meeting a race of people made entirely out of vegetables... this will be the least strange part of this wonderful story!

"A Spaceship Named McGuire" is a sci-fi short story by Randall Garrett, published in 1961. This tale is kind of a mix between detective, sci-fi and thriller; as detective Daniel Oak investigates the possibly sabotaged "brain" of a spaceship (!) amongst spaceship big shots, criminals and ladies... Fun and exciting.

"Nor Iron Bars A Cage"... focuses on a very serious subject; the question of what best to do with criminals in prison, and criminality overall. Is physical imprisonment best? What about mind altering practices? Even at the risk of damaging psyches permanently?

An intriguing novella by author Murray Leinster, published in 1949, about machines which have the capacity to retain emotions for the missions they accomplish, and weird signals from the future, which annihilate less advanced mechanisms! A classic piece of sci-fi pulp by the masterful Leinster.

"Salvage in Space" is a science fiction tale by Jack Williamson, published in 1933. An isolated and poor asteroid miner who collects bits of metallic ore in the asteroid belt on his very own planet of debris, sees and manages to capture a derelict space ship with a destructive and evil monster aboard and a beautiful dead girl(!)... exactly how will all of this unfold?

"The Thing in the Attic" is a sci-fi story by James B. Blish, published in 1954. "Honath and his fellow arch-doubters did not believe in the Giants, and for this they were cast into Hell. And when survival depended upon unwavering faith in their beliefs, they saw that there were Giants, after all..." A classic and exotic tale of survival against all odds and amongst - yes - real space giants!

A sci-fi/war classic by the master Murray Leinster, published in 1930. Great sci-fi in the way Leinster guesses (or predicts) what will be a large part of future warfare... "The persistent, oily smell of fog-gas was everywhere, even in the little pill-box. Outside, all the world was blotted out by the thick gray mist that went rolling slowly across country with the breeze. The noises that came through it were curiously muted - fog-gas mutes all noises somewhat - but somewhere to the right artillery was pounding something with H E shell.

"The Golden Goose Book" is a wonderful classic of children's fairy tales by L. Leslie Brooke, first published in 1905. It includes the mostly universally well known and well loved tales "The Golden Goose", "The Three Bears", "The Three Little Pigs" and "Tom Thumb"... Time to listen up in delight and rediscover these timeless classics!

"The Skylark of Space" by E. E.Smith was written between 1915 and 1921 while Smith was working on his doctorate. Though the original idea for the novel was Smith's, he co-wrote the first part of the novel with Lee Hawkins Garby. The novel is considered to be one of the earliest works of interstellar travel and the first example of space opera... Close your eyes, prick up your ears and enjoy.

"The Road to Oz: In Which Is Related How Dorothy Gale of Kansas, The Shaggy Man, Button Bright, and Poly-chrome the Rainbow's Daughter Met on an Enchanted Road and Followed it All the Way to the Marvelous Land of Oz" is the fifth of L. Frank Baum's "Oz" books, published in 1909. As the long, complete title of the work says quite a bit about the wonderful proceedings in this work, there is no need for more than for the listener to just jump into it all and enjoy.

"Alice's Adventures in Wonderland" (commonly shortened to "Alice in Wonderland") tells of a girl named Alice falling through a rabbit hole into a fantasy world populated by peculiar, anthropomorphic creatures. The tale plays with logic, giving the story lasting popularity with adults as well as with children! It is considered to be one of the best examples of the literary nonsense genre. Its narrative course and structure, characters and imagery have been enormously influential.

"The Dancing Girls" is a short story collection by author Edna Ferber. The other stories in the collection are: "Old Lady Mandle", "Long Distance" and "One Hundred Percent". As almost always with the great Edna Ferber, the stories celebrate the ordinary humanity in all its fragility and resilience facing most of the things life throws at it.
