Following the events of Book 3: Another Day In Paradise, and Book 4: Thunder Run, the unit is paired with the Golden Eagles, a crack mercenary tank regiment. Their mission is to suppress a breakaway republic from gaining independence from the planetary government. Given the nature of warfare the unit can't hope to survive on the front lines, and instead tasked out to provide medical evacuation of any fallen Golden Eagles members. The mission is simple: help others survive but will they survive the front lines that they have to do evacuations on?

After the events in 2-4 Cavalry Story 15: In the Pit of Vipers and under a new Troop commander, Captain Karl Bradi, the unit is redesignated C Troop 1-5 Kommando. After their deployment to Earth the unit is resting and refitting, and also cleaning up holdouts on Friesland. Despite this, they are sent to Durham, a planet in the Independent Planets that suffers what is loosely described as a zombie infestation. The unit fights monsters, both real and human, in order to survive on the planet.

Task Force Green is hired to "abduct" an AI program called Smedley. Upon retrieving him, he becomes a part of the unit in his own way. He is then used during a planetary crisis to assist the unit while providing anti-criminal and other tasks during the recovery process. They learn he can do a lot for them, and does so when they are in conflict.
