Deathworld centers on Jason dinAlt, a professional gambler who uses his somewhat erratic psionic abilities to tip the odds in his favor. He is challenged by a man named Kerk Pyrrus (who turns out to be the ambassador from the planet Pyrrus) to turn a large amount of money into an immense sum by gambling at a government-run casino. He succeeds and survives the planetary government's desperate efforts to steal back the money.

Garth is really the crazed Captain Zennor, head of an army which continually defies League peace treaties, and now plans to invade and conquer the planet Chojecki.

Harry Harrison was an American science fiction author, best known for his character "The Stainless Steel Rat" and for his novel Make Room! Make Room! The movie, Soylent Green was based on Make Room! Make Room! In addition to his novels, Harrison wrote a number of fascinating and highly imaginative science fiction stories, many including in this audiobook.
