Clifford Donald Simak was an American science fiction writer. He won three Hugo Awards and one Nebula Award. The Science Fiction Writers of America made him its third SFWA Grand Master, and the Horror Writers Association made him one of three inaugural winners of the Bram Stoker Award for Lifetime Achievement.

This volume contains ten stellar short stories by Clifford D. Simak. "The World That Couldn't Be" is a science fiction tale about a plantation owner on an alien world, who tracks the strange animal, Cytha, and gets a lesson in xeno-ecology. Excerpt: He plodded back across the field toward the house. Not much of a house as yet. Not a great deal better than a native shack. But someday it would be, he told himself.
