One wrong turn. One right man.

Colin. Rule-follower. Future doctor. Witness to murder. Captive.

Taron. Survivalist. Mute. Murderer. Captor.

Like every other weekend, Colin is on his way home from university, but he’s taunted by the notion that he never takes risks in life and always follows the beaten path. On impulse, he decides to take a different route. Just this one time. What he doesn’t realize is that it’s the last time he has a choice.

He ends up taking a detour into the darkest pit of horror, abducted by a silent, imposing man with a blood-stained axe. But what seems like his worst nightmare might just prove to be a path to the kind of freedom Colin never knew existed.

Taron has lived alone for years. His land, his rules. He’d given up on company long ago. After all, attachment is a liability. He deals with his problems on his own, but the night he needs to dispose of an enemy, he ends up with a witness to his crime.

The last thing Taron needs is a nuisance of a captive. Colin doesn’t deserve death for setting foot on Taron’s land, but keeping him isn’t optimal either. It’s only when he finds out the city boy is gay that an altogether different option arises. One that isn’t right, yet tempts him every time Colin’s pretty eyes glare at him from the cage.

Warning:or adult readers who enjoy stories where lines between right and wrong get blurry. High heat, twisted and tantalizing, not for the fainthearted.

I found myself thoroughly enjoying this audio from the Criminal Delights series. The plot was not for the faint of heart, and sickeningly twisted. It was a deep and dark departure from my normal reads, but well worth it. Merikan is a new to me author and really delighted in the author's writing style. The characters were fascinating and with the narration, Baker has brought the characters to life. Heart pounding, dark, and altogether masterful, this story is one not to be missed.

Riveting and dark

I love K. A Merikan 's novels and this was another great one though different and I loved every minute of it. I originally started reading it but then I got the offer to review the book for an honest opinion and I'm so glad I took the leap into audio... never thought I'd like them... Wyatt Baker changed my mind in a hurry...he has this really calm voice and the difference between characters were fantastic...I also how the ALS was identified with the different tone and I believe there was a sound before they signed.
Colin definitely took the wrong way home and didn't get anywhere for his efforts.
When a sign says no trespassing in the middle of nowhere make sure you turn back...
Then again things even though things turn into a horror show who knows what will happen?
Taron just wanted to be left alone and gets landed with Colin who was in the wrong place at the wrong time.
Even though he kept Colin as captive I really liked him, I understood Taron to a degree.
There was some surprises in there for me.. and I would love something more like this from the author.
As I mentioned above I listened to this audiobook to give an honest review.

First ever audio and impressed

This story was not a surprise for me, given earlier books I had read by this author. It was dark but very interesting. I liked both of the characters and found the story enjoyable. The ending was appropriate for the storyline and I recommend. It is different to the average m/m book.

Definitely different!

Yes it’s probably stockholm syndrome and probably like “the novels your mom used to read”, but for normalcy I already have reality and most of the romantic, boring novels out there. When I’m in the mood for something unapologetic, wrong, dark that takes me out of my comfort zone, I always pick Merikan. Part of my brain is saying “this is wrong, this guy is…just no” and “what the hell is wrong with the other character?” But most of my brain is excited and just enjoying the ride ;)

Dark, wrong and romantic in it’s own way

This book was good so long as you can embrace Stalkhome syndrome as a happy ending. Which was fine with me. It reminded me of the romance novels my mom used to read. You know the ones where the woman is taken against her will yet still falls madly in love with her abductor. The writing was good and the "now day" twist made it more relevant. The ending took a twist I was not expecting, so it will be interesting to see where the next book goes.

Just go with it
