Running trade routes with a crew of misfits, Karzon only had his determination, survival skills, and the need to turn a profit.

As a newly awoken healer, Karzon's magic is unexpectedly rare. When the kingdom of Arlenia crumbles under monsters rising from corrupted gems, Karzon realizes all will fall without him, because his magic alone can destroy the source. Thankfully, he's not alone.

Among the fantastic women fighting by his side are Briena, the lithe, silver-haired elven warrior, and Aisri, the breathtaking fire-mage. Together they'll discover the truth behind the dungeon gems and their combined power will face its greatest test in this high-stakes adventure.

This is a great introduction to this series. The world building and story foundation are excellent. The main characters are introduced, and information about them emerges organically. Action is paced and not forced. Overall, great offering.

Great Opening.

I'm sorry I really tried to love this book as I am a huge fan of Miss Hawthorne however this one is a stinker. every scene felt like it was being set up and described by a first time game master playing dungeons & dragons and the transition from roll to the next especially with the female cast was very confusing as I could never tell who was actually doing the talking. I got halfway through the book and gave up. I'm sorry Mrs Hawthorne I'm going to go back and re-listen to horny monsters.

meh.

While the story was good, the author seemed determined to put in as many metaphors as possible. This really slowed down the pace of the story. I understand using a single metaphor, but three to describe the same thing? I think the author got caught up in their own imagery instead of focusing on the pace and rhythm of the plot.

Too many flowering words

Wonderful writing and a fun story. I'd love more healer heroes. Narrators were good too.
