[1] Volume one introduces us to Jackson Block and some degree, to his fiancé Lisa. Jackson’s co-piloting a small plane headed home to Boston. Lisa lives in the small town of Aldrich, CT outside of Quincy. Jackson lives in Boston, where the action will be split between here and Quincy. Jackson is in Boston to improve his job skills, while Lisa went back home to care for her mother dying of cancer. The news media reports that people of Boston are dropping dead and planes are falling from the sky. Jackson is in dire straights. A team of scientists from Ft. Detrick is on their way to Boston to find out what is going on there. So far so good; the plot thickens. [2] Volume two finds Jackson heading back to Aldrich to rejoin Lisa. The team of scientists from Ft. Detrick, Team Ten, finds unexpected trouble in Boston instead of clues. The bad guys make their appearance in the form of some motorcycle riders in the guise of a teamster motorcycle gang. And to top it all off, our ever-considerate government decides to solve the problem in Boston. [3] Volume three chronicles the aftermath of the fighting in Quincy. With the death of Mayor Harris and the revelation of his insanity, it was sensible for all the survivors to come together and decide what to do next. Ft. Detrick in Maryland seemed to be the logical choice. Jackson’s fiancé Lisa is a challenge, or a PITA depending on how you look at it. Her attitude towards Jackson is a mystery to me. [4] Volume four revisits our Russian antagonist Scarface, whom I neglected to mention until now, is still plotting his revenge against America, leading the teamster motorcycle gang to disaster. Not as much action in this volume, more character background, and personal introspection. [5] Volume five picks up our survivors at Ft. Detrick. It is here the scientists are working on an antidote for the virus that has killed eighty-percent of the world’s population. Jackson has been coughing for the past week or two. Now that they’re at Ft. Detrick perhaps they can figure out what’s wrong with him. Melinda, the young girl presumed to be immune, arrived at Ft. Detrick with the survivors so they have her to aid research as well. I’m disliking Lisa more and more. In her words, Jackson had burned the bridge between them in Boston. I don’t get it and neither does Jackson. Is my confusion a “man thing” or what? They both went to Boston, Lisa went home to care for her mother, Jackson stayed to continue working and fulfill the six-month lease on their apartment. Now she’s hitting on Jackson’s co-worker Broderick. In the meantime, Scarface and the National Survivors Group (NSG) have joined forces. Ft. Detrick is failing; running out of fuel and supplies. To make matters worse, NSA Agent Craig plans on silencing Ft. Detrick permanently. This volume concludes with a deadly attack on Ft. Detrick. [6] The final volume picks up after the destruction of Ft. Detrick. Jackson, Clark, Broderick, Lisa, Priscilla, and Melinda decide to head to the CDC in Atlanta so that Broderick can continue research on the virus. In route, our worn-out survivors encounter a remote hunting cabin, They take a well-deserved break to recuperate and get a decent night’s sleep, but the peacefulness does not last very long. The remnants of NSG are still on their trail and Scarface is out there somewhere as well. The Army wearing MOPP gear has established roadblocks around Atlanta with orders to contain or eliminate intruders. According to Broderick there are other secret labs around Atlanta besides the main CDC location. Perhaps they should try for one of those? Broderick feels he is close to a solution and he must continue his research. Will they make it to a research lab? Will they survive? Will Broderick find an antidote? Stay tuned for the action-packed, exciting conclusion.
