It ain't over til the custard creams have all gone.

Life is always hectic for P.I. (and novice witch), Jill Gooder. Murder, theft, and a missing cat, she can take in stride, but a date with detective Jack Maxwell? That's a whole different ball game.

The plot gets a bit more complicated with several crimes being solved at the same time, and romance weaving it's way into the lives of several characters. Grandma turns up the heat and the craziness .. such fun; and the animals get meaner still!

Love this Series!

I am enjoying the escapades of Jill (I think that's the main character's name--names don't stick with me), but if I didn't know better, I'd think this audio version was abridged. At least, I hope that's not how the author wrote the book. The first time I noticed it was when Jill went to work in her cousins' bakery in Candlewood. Mention was made that there would be someone helping out with the waitressing, but then that person was never mentioned again. That scene was incomplete, and the next thing I knew, Jill was in the park with Barry, her dog, with no mention of how her first day at the bakery went. This choppiness continued throughout the book, and it was disconcerting. I do like the story line and the characters, but I hope the third book in the series won't follow this trend.

Enjoyable, but choppy...

Love everything happening... but one major problem -- The main character. She is riddled with insecurities, has low-self esteem, a self-deprecating attitude, and is inordinately simple-minded.

But wait, she is also spineless, bold-faced lies, and is incapable of making decisions - rather she just goes along with what everyone bosses her to do.

It's taxing at this point...

The good : I like the cat, the grandmother, and the story flows nicely. Any other lead character & I could love this series as a 'go to' for fluff to listen to on a lengthy drive.

Sigh. I will read reviews to see if she gets any self-esteem and stops (acting?) like she's incapable of walking through life without her hand held or a boot up her bum.

Great narrator.

Self-deprecation

as in the first book of the series, the narrator was wonderful and the story light and funny. if, however, you're wanting a great mystery....look elsewhere. the mysteries in the book are light and cozy. nothing too serious or thought provoking. if you want a light, humorous read this is a good second book in the series.

cute

As with the first book in this series, I found the story lots of fun and entertaining! It's perfect when in the mood got something light. As with my first review, I love Hannah Platts reading, just not the voices. Although, in this book, I felt most of the men's voices were a great improvement over the first book. In this book, I really only disliked the voices of her sister and her cousins. (One in particular sounds like she has marbles in her mouth.) But, as I said before, she is a joy to listen to and brings Jill's character to life. Anxiously awaiting for the next book in the series to be on Audible! I've always loved to read, but I suffer from chronic migraines and reading only makes it worse (much to my dismay). I'm really enjoying Audible because I can once again be transported in a book!

Such a Fun Book!
