This book is generally good; interesting observations are offered. Written by Hollis, the prose is often turgid and professorial. Another trademark of many books by Hollis is the intermittent political soundbytes where he advertises he is a Left-wing kook. One for all: he writes that same-sex marriage -to him- is the fix to restore commitment and family values. Pfft! Does he read the stats and the tabloids? Marriage is in troubled waters, same-sex or otherwise.

One can achieve no higher or better relationship with the other than one has achieved within oneselves. What we don't know about ourselves will be projected on the other. enjoyed this book, a good reminder that the strongest relationships begin with the relationships to ourselves.

Mispronunciation of various named sources. Overly dramatic narration was distraction. Pacing of narrator’s diction was horrible.

I project my parental wise father image onto Hollis. Don’t worry, it’s safe! Haha. He’s so wise, and I love his writing—how he weaves poetry and history into his books and ties them into Jungian principles. Whenever I feel stuck in my life, his books cause me to think through my problems with a mythic Jungian lens—which seems to be the key to unlocking the problem in my confused mind.
