Can two rivals work together to solve a case?
When an infant is taken from his carriage in broad daylight, missing persons detective Quaid Valor must race against the clock to find the child and bring him safely home to his family. Unfortunately, Quaid’s partner isn’t available, and his team is spread thin. Begrudgingly, Quaid must accept the help from his rival, homicide detective Aslan Doyle, if he wants to get the job done.
Aslan is Quaid’s opposite in every way. He’s bold, outspoken, arrogant, and the office playboy. And much to Quaid’s chagrin, Aslan seems to have set his sights on Quaid as his next conquest.
Quaid doesn’t have time to deal with Aslan’s flirty behavior when he’s trying to solve a case and juggle his cheating ex’s incessant interruptions.
It doesn’t matter how attractive Aslan is or the undeniable chemistry they seem to have. Getting involved with Aslan would be a huge mistake.
But as tension with the case builds, Quaid keeps forgetting he’s supposed to hate this new partner. Maybe Aslan is exactly the kind of distraction he needs.
Temporarily, at least.
Right?
Temporary Partner is the first in the Valor and Doyle Mysteries.

*story*
I really enjoyed this book. I loved the banter between Quaid and Aslan. They had me laughing many times throughout this book. The mystery aspect was really good. I was honestly trying to solve the mystery along with them, and I had no clue on who the real culprit was or how it was going to end, which shows just how good of an author Nicky James is. I found it amazing that while I was reading and trying to solve the mystery, thoughts came to mind about "they should visit her art shop" and other thoughts about the real culprit and how suspicious everyone was acting, and the next moment, they come up with the same conclusion. I was honestly kind of stunned and amazed. It wasn't like a few other books that I've read before where I knew who was the culprit pretty much right away and what exactly had happened. Nicky James definitely threw some twists and turns, and it was very interesting and engaging to read/listen to. I had a hard time putting this book down. I feel like there is still a lot of information that needs to be revealed about our main characters; Aslan and Quaid. I do think Aslan is the one who is falling for Quaid first, but I think Quaid is getting there as well. The both of them are in complete denial though and refuse to acknowledge it (that they might have feelings for each other). I will say at this point they enjoy being in each others company (but won't admit to it, and I will say only sometimes as I think they like to annoy each other), they are definitely physically attracted to each other, and I think they do care about each other more than just work partners, but I think its more on a friend type of level. I think a lot of things is going on right now and they are technically still getting to know each other, since they've only been working with each other for a few days. I am a bit interested in what Quaid thought about learning about the fact that Aslan is an alcoholic. Was he surprised? Did he feel bad or guilty from giving him alcohol, even though he didn't know? Will this change things in the future, like being more aware and not drinking alcohol around Aslan? Or even completely getting rid of alcohol in his house if he knows Aslan will be coming over? Did that broken glass and rum ever get cleaned up? Jk. I am also curious about what Aslan's sponsor was talking about. Was he hinting that Aslan had an addiction to intimacy with multiple people with no strings attached or was he stating that due to trying to be sober, Aslan was trying to use intimacy as a means of escape from his urge to drink alcohol and it was becoming unhealthy? I'm hoping we might get a better answer in the future about this. Also, I feel like either Aslan has a specific reason as to why he doesn't date or he just never found the one worth getting to know.
I am also curious if Quaid has had other boyfriends before he started dating Jack. I'm sure he has

*narration*
I thoroughly enjoyed Nick J. Russo's narration. He definitely enhanced my reading experience. He fit extremely well with every single character in this book, especially the main characters. I am really looking forwards to book 2 being narrated that I will will most likely be checking frequently for news or updates on when book 2 will be turned into audio format.
Overall, I had zero issues with this book or audio book and would highly recommend reading and listening to this book to other people.
