As an RPG/TTRPG player, I really enjoyed this story. I can attest that everyone loves being the main character (after 24 years as a TTRPG Dungeon Master), but sometimes it’s hard to capture that greatness when you’re reading about someone you don’t immediately feel connected to. Marc Mulero manages to do exactly that with Dragonborn.

The writing is strong for a fantasy epic, the characters develop well, and the story stays intriguing throughout. Hale starts off in as a gruff, almost stereotypically so, protagonist, but I felt connected to him, and rooting for him from the start. The environmental and world‑building elements really land, giving you empathy for Hale and grounding his journey.

Eric Jason Martin delivers excellent narration, just the correct amount of pace and voice acting. I highly recommend it. Fans of RPG video games or anime like Sword Art Online will likely enjoy this story.

Just finished Dragonborn Rite of Ascension and really enjoyed it. The book is immersive, and the dragon bond concept adds a great layer to the story. Hale is easy to root for and the story got me hooked. If you like underdog stories this one is definitely worth checking out. Looking forward to the next book!
