Courtney

I’m just so exhausted—always living on the edge of desperation, one paycheck away from ruin.

But this new job…

It could be the fresh start I need.

It could change everything.

The contract is only for three months, but if I keep my head down, work hard, and prove myself, maybe I could stay longer.

Maybe I could make Black Mountain Lodge my home.

As I pull down the gravel drive, surrounded by the forest and mountains and bright blue skies, I feel something I haven’t felt in a while.

I feel hope.

Sterling

My new employee is late.

I’m already in a bad mood about having to train him, still salty about my old guy retiring on me.

But while I’m waiting, a woman pulls up my drive.

A woman straight from my damn dreams.

Curvy and pretty, looking at me with wide eyes framed with sooty lashes.

And suddenly, I’m no longer thinking about my late employee.

But then she opens her mouth and asks for me, introducing herself as Courtney, my new hire.

Courtney. Not Court, like the application said.

And I realize there’s been a mistake.

I can’t have this woman working here. Living on my property. Distracting me. I mean, my staff.

No. She can’t work for me. End of story.

Except she won’t leave. She even threatens to sue me.

Fine. If she won’t let me fire her before she even starts, then I’ll just have to make her leave on her own.

I wanted to like this book more. I didn’t like the hero by the end. I don’t understand when men who obsess leave without communicating which he does multiple times and she never holds him accountable. He wasn’t ill willed but I just didn’t feel the emotional side.

The first 1/2 was great

This has all the things you want in a mountain daddy romance. Period. The spice was super good and way more angsty than I thought it was gonna be but loved that. It’s worth it! 📕5 🌶️4

I listened to the audiobook version of this story and it was amazing!!! Sterling is the most delicious mountain grump with stalkerish tendencies and I'm am here for it! I loved seeing the slow burn play out between Courtney and Sterling and the sizzling flames that erupted when they finally gave into their desires. The interactions of both Sterling and Courtney with the side characters was really enjoyable. The spice was incredible and the suspense was just perfect. The only thing I wasn't a huge fan of was the very short chapters changing POVs constantly, some being just a couple of sentences long which made it a bit distracting for me. But otherwise, the story, the plot, the characters, the spice, all of it was an easy 5 star. The narration by Erin Mallon and Connor Crais was spectacular. Their voices have the perfect tones and inflections throughout and elevated the story even higher. An easy 5 star story for me!

The perfect combo of suspense, spice and romance

This was my first SJ Tilly book, and I can’t wait to read more! I loved the story, kept me engaged the whole time. Could’ve had less chapters, but it didn’t take away from the storytelling too much. Erin Mallon and Connor Crais were an amazing duo, loved that this was duet style. Highly recommend!
