Instant New York Times bestseller!

A chilling twist on the “cursed film” genre from the bestselling author of The Pallbearers Club and The Cabin at the End of the World.

In June 1993, a group of young guerilla filmmakers spent four weeks makingHorror Movie, a notorious, disturbing, art-house horror flick.

The weird part? Only three of the film’s scenes were ever released to the public, but Horror Movie has nevertheless grown a rabid fanbase. Three decades later, Hollywood is pushing for a big budget reboot.

The man who played “The Thin Kid” is the only surviving cast member. He remembers all too well the secrets buried within the original screenplay, the bizarre events of the filming, and the dangerous crossed lines on set that resulted in tragedy. As memories flood back in, the boundaries between reality and film, past and present start to blur. But he’s going to help remake the film, even if it means navigating a world of cynical producers, egomaniacal directors, and surreal fan conventions—demons of the past be damned.

But at what cost?

Horror Movie is an obsessive, psychologically chilling, and suspenseful feat of storytelling genius that builds inexorably to an unforgettable, mind-bending conclusion

I'm not sure what happened here, but the audio wasn't edited. There are shuffling of scripts heard, coughs, misspoke words repeated, and even once when the actor didn't understand the sentence structure and repeats several times, someone else comes in and they chat for a second about how it's supposed to sound. It sounded like they did a once over and then hit upload without listening back to what they had made. For something that I used a credit for, it's baffling.

Good story, bad production.

the main character did a good job voice acting and basically carried the whole thing. the story was okay and entertaining worth a listen. However the fact you can hear the pages turn, mics click off, and multiple takes of the same narration gets old fast. I thought it might have been intentional at first and if it is then it's not really something that I appreciate.
I can't say I'd recommend this one

this seems to be in editing as in they didn't correct the editing

No spoilers but the only complaint I have is the page turning sound effect was overused. The story, while I wouldn’t call this horror, was unsettling. I was constantly trying to figure out where it was going, and I was surprised where we ended up. This is a book I will have to listen to again to pick up all the clues.

Great!

When the movie consumes you mishaps happen. What would it be like to be a part of a slasher that goes terribly wrong? Beautifully written.

Great suspense leading up into the ending, would highly recommend. The performance had quite a few outtakes though but still was overall very well edited and acted.

A slow burn but worth it
