The world is changing. Where mages once stood supreme, unchallenged in war, economics, and politics the common man has elevated himself with the gun, the rail line, and the Consul. None of this, however, matters to Adrian. He simply wishes to return home with Isi and heal. To forget the Kurtz labor camps that stole so much from the two of them.

I liked how they kept they story grim and grounded without any crazy fantastical happenings.

The story was awesome

Took me almost half the book to get used to the sound of Net Narrator's voice coming from my audible app. LOL

The story was solid, though not my favorite. The characters were interesting and the writing was mostly good quality. My biggest gripe was things like, and I can't remember for sure if this was in there, but there were similar things to, "he stood, crouched" where the first word is totally superfluous.

A different kind of story, from a familiar narrator

Warning this book will suck you in and not let you go until it’s done with you.

Surprisingly good

I loved absolutely all of the story. The characters are compelling, the authors description of the world is amazing. Unfortunately I feel like the female leads aren't as well written as they could've been but I could definitely see them being further developed in later stories

outstanding work
