When the world ends, humanity must fight to survive—but where others struggle in fear, Will sees only an opportunity to thrive.

April 3rd, 3:46 AM. Planet Earth merges with the magical world of Arcadia, and a system gives humanity a choice: 40 years of indentured servitude, or entering a tutorial as a user to fight against the chaos incursion.

Will doesn't hesitate—but the system thanks him for stepping into the fight by throwing him into an impossible tutorial. With little chance of survival, Will has a simple response: “Screw it. Might as well fight fire with fire."

Warning: [Corruption] has been chosen as primary attribute.

With a forbidden element, Will just might be able to stab his way out of the tutorial. But as he gains the powers of death and space as well, he realizes that his problems might not only lie in the monsters that now plague the world.

Will, now Earth's sole corruption wielder, finds danger at every corner. For anyone else, that could mean a quick and terrifying end. To him?

Maybe Will was meant for this world.

This book is just... meh. It's servicable, but that doesn't mean it's enjoyable.

The world is bland, of course there are elves and goblins because this is a generic fantasy. I was extremely bored, at least until the explanation of the elemental system came in and a spark of originality lit my interest.

The MC is just... cardboard. He's basically Kirito from Sword Art Online, who's super duper cool guys and he lacks morality cause that's just the sorta world this is now.

Thankfully, a side character, an elf, appears soonish in the story, and their by-play is basically the best part of this book. The two not trusting each other and slowly becoming a better team while snarking doesn't get old.

The most annoying thing is that sometimes the author will take shits at shota anime, only to do the exact same thing except more clumsily. there is an awkward attempt at giving the MC an epic entrance after finishing the tutorial, where the author tries to hype it up by cutting to a fight on earth that he'll be dropping into, but we care about none of these characters, and the build up is so weak. Then the MC drops in and is like "time to show earth what I'm really capable of" and solos a boss while everyone watches in awe. Not to mention how they instantly know he's been in more combat (ie more badass than they are) and feels evil.

There's one chapter in Stree Cultivation where Sara Lin parodies sycophantic fan boy characters whose only job is to sit around and react in awe at everything the MC does, and this feels like that... except it's real.

Like, the author does this whole thing where he doesn't reveal which class the MC takes to build tension an- it's Reaper. Come on, of course it's Reaper. The drawbacks only make the MC look more badass, OF COURSE, the author makes him a reaper, and it's the only legendary class he's offered.

Tries to be cool, but just ends up the same.

First part

For my tastes, this was too much system/info and not much story. 75/25. The narrators didn’t combine their dialogue in a smooth manner so that didn’t help. Listened at 1.1 x speed. Helper? Really? Did someone forget to put a name in the place holder?

Second part

I now understand the Primal Hunter with He Who Fights With Monsters comments. A story line develops more as it goes on. The narration gets smoother.

Final part. Finishes up stronger than the start. Undecided on book 2. Updated my rating.

Slow start

A far better and faster start than defiance of the fall, Primal hunter or even HWFWM. The dialogue & humor is just great. It just feels very clean & balanced. Fights & skills feel natural and understandable. It feels more polished than DOTF or PH. Not overly political like HWFWM. It touches on all the details and elements that need to be but doesn’t overdue it. It’s just excellent.

Just Excellent

Really loved this! It has a unique magic and leveling system. Well it’s a bit like he who fights with monsters but has enough differences that it does make it feel unique. Lots of action and the MC is strong and witty. He does is kind of arrogant but he’s able to back it up! It is weird that Will says he doesn’t want to be a serial killer yet by that point he had already killed like 10 people!? Was it just me or is it not a crying shame Will can’t use that awesome armor that was perfect for him!?

Awesome!
