On the passing of SEAL Team 6 founder and American hero RICHARD MARCINKO on Christmas Day, 2021: Dick Marcinko was a true American hero and a born leader. It was easy to see why warriors would not only follow him to hell and back, but achieve their objective and complete the trip alive. I was privileged to write a number of books with Dick, and even more privileged to know him. His indomitable courage was a thing of legend, but his sense of humor and his generosity were just as great. What I didn't know until I started working on "They Called Us Lucky" was that their courage and brotherhood lasts a lifetime. "Lucky" follows the men of Lima Company 3/25 to Iraq and back home, through the eyes of Ruben Gallego. It details some of the worst fighting and losses of the Iraq War. It's a testament to the Marine commitment to our country, to the Corps, and to each other. There are a few "recruiting poster" Marines in the book, guys who seem to be the stuff of legends, superheroes in our midst. But most are ordinary men who did extraordinary things, both on the battlefield and at home. They too are superheroes, the quieter backbone of the company and the communities they were drawn from and returned to. Reservists - sometimes called "civilian Marines" - they proved as brave and capable as any in the Iraq War. I'm proud to have helped give them, and by extension all Reservists in the war, some of their due. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ In honor of the 75th Anniversary of the D-Day, I am deeply honored to have worked with WWII Army Staff Sergeant Ray Lambert, a highly decorated combat medic working at the front lines, who risked his own life to save the heroes of Omaha Beach. His first-hand account is called EVERY MAN A HERO, from HarperCollins, which just made the New York Times Bestseller List.
