Drew Harrison is a Florida-based writer and educator whose work straddles cerebral science fiction, imaginative fantasy, and everywhere in between. Although he holds a degree in broadcast and electronic journalism, Drew realized early on that his passion wasn’t in reporting on the real world, but in reimagining it. Today, Drew combines his varied academic interests with a permanent, restless curiosity about our uncertain future. He is best known for "Early Adopter" and "Starfall," novels that explore the moral complexities (and dangers) of artificial intelligence. His stories are written for and of the modern age: narratives that aim to entertain while grappling seriously with questions of identity, agency, and human hubris, particularly in those thrilling moments when our society leaps before it looks. As author M. L. Candelario observes, Harrison’s work joins a long tradition of science fiction interrogating humanity’s relationship with its own creations, but it avoids the genre’s more fatalistic tendencies. Rather than dwelling on despair, his stories are marked by a sense of optimism and care for humanity—warnings about possible futures offered not in cynicism, but in hope, and in the desire that we might yet do better. When he isn’t teaching, Drew can usually be found in a local coffee shop with an oversized (and over-sugared) latte, diligently working to craft stories that meet his central goals: to get readers thinking, to invite them to draw their own conclusions about where we are and where we’re headed, and above all else, to entertain from the first page to the last.
