A Paste Magazine Most Anticipated Summer Romantasy

A Los Angeles Times Best Summer Romance Read

“A chaotic Pirates of the Caribbean-style story with a dash of romance and female rage is exactly what I need this summer.”—Paste Magazine

From a world where women are forbidden to use magic and the only freedom is found on the Caribbean high seas comes a swashbuckling romantasy from USA TODAY bestselling author Eva Leigh.

Condemned as a witch, sentenced to die, Alys Tanner uses her innate magical power to flee Puritanical New England. Stealing a ship, Alys becomes captain of The Sea Witch, leading its all-female, sorcery-wielding pirate crew. But the colonial British navy is in hot pursuit. The navy fights for a choke hold on the Caribbean and will destroy anything they cannot control, especially witches.

When Ben Priestley, a headstrong naval navigator, is inadvertently captured by the lady pirates, dangerous truths are revealed. A quest that could turn the tides against the navy’s might ignites a reluctant partnership between the by-the-books prisoner and the fierce witch pirate captain. While they brave backstabbing pirates, perilous tropical islands and monster-filled seas, Alys and Ben’s mistrust grows into unexpected desire as they battle an enemy that will stop at nothing to rule the waves.

What you can expect in THE SEA WITCH:
  • Enemies to Lovers
  • Forced Proximity
  • Pirate Witch Captain
  • Buttoned Up British Navy Hero
  • She Takes Him Captive
  • Magical Sea Monsters
  • Mysterious Uncontrolled Magic

Narrator was not my favorite. Story wasn't bad. I will look for book #2. Sometimes felt like there were gaps in the story.

Narrator sounded like she was reading a children's story.

I enjoyed these witches. They weren’t victims or naive like many witches are written. I love this lore as well.

Great Witches

can't get into it. it's so flat. trying to struggle through, but I honestly think this is the first book I'm going to DNF. maybe someday... the performance is... sub par. and the story is just flat. I struggled through the first three hours. if I pick it up again I'll update this.

about to DNF

I might have enjoyed this more at half its length. I liked the idea of a ladies only pirate crew in a magical American colonial world, but for every nifty idea there was a whole lotta blah narrated with a stilted cadence. The plot, personalities, and dialogue … none of these things spoke to me. The use of modern day F bombs and C words was needlessly crass. The oral fixation and detailed sex scene clashed with the otherwise teenage level storytelling. The incessant inner lusting over his/her body and flatlined chemistry killed any sense of romance. My favorite character, a mage named Pasquale, got a mere cameo. And then, in the final minutes, we get dying villains promising that the war is yet to come and a monstrous twist meant to tease book 2. No thanks.

Forgettable start to a series

DNF after a few chapters. Just couldn't get past the narrator. Story might be good... but it never held my attention.

Meh
