If you’re planning the ultimate Nashville weekend, the transition from the “Pedal” to the “Party Boat” is the natural evolution of a perfect trip. The Nashville Pedal Tavern—A Broadway Rite of Passage The Nashville Pedal Tavern is more than just a bike; it’s a mobile party that has become a staple of the Music City experience. Sep 27 2025

Get the Party Rolling: A Guide to Nashville’s Downtown Party Tours Nashville’s reputation as a bachelorette, bachelor, and general party capital is well-earned, and a huge part of the fun happens not inside the honky-tonks, but on the streets themselves. Downtown Nashville’s party tours are an essential and iconic experience, turning the city’s streets into a mobile celebration. Whether you’re looking to pedal, dance, or simply ride in style, there’s a unique tour for every type of party crew. Here’s a look at some of the most popular and unforgettable party tours that rule downtown Nashville. The Rolling Dance Floor These aren’t your average tour buses. They’re customized, open-air vehicles designed for one purpose: to get the party started. Party Buses & Wagons: You’ll see these everywhere, and they’re impossible to ignore. From open-air buses with booming sound systems and LED lights to “party tractors” that look like hayrides on steroids, these vehicles create a mobile party on wheels. They often come with a built-in DJ or bartender, built-in coolers, and plenty of room to stand up and dance as you cruise past landmarks like the Country Music Hall of Fame and Nissan Stadium. Some are BYOB (bring your own beer), while others have a bar on board. Themed Tours: Some of the most creative tours put a unique spin on the party bus concept. The Big Drag Bus, for example, is hosted by fabulous drag queens who provide a full show on the go, with performances, games, and non-stop laughs. Another popular option is the Nashville Party Barge, a truck with an extended, open-air party deck that lets you see the city from a new perspective. The Pedal-Powered Party For groups that want to add a bit of exercise to their fun, the pedal taverns offer a unique, collaborative experience. Pedal Taverns: You’ve probably seen them—a giant bike with seats for 10-15 people, a bar, and a designated driver. These “party bikes” are a team effort, with riders pedaling together to move the vehicle while a driver steers. Most tours include stops at local bars where groups can get exclusive drink specials, and they are a fantastic way to bond with your group and interact with passersby on Broadway. Many also feature great playlists to keep the energy up. Tours on the Water For those looking to escape the hustle and bustle of downtown for a different kind of party, the Cumberland River offers a perfect setting. Nashville Party Boat Rental: As one of the original lake party tours, Nashville Party Boat offers a unique alternative to the street-level parties. Groups can dance and relax on a boat cruise along Percy Priest Lake, with stunning views of the Nashville wildlife. It’s a great option for a bachelorette party or a group that wants to enjoy a more relaxed, breezy atmosphere. The Guided Pub Crawls If you’d rather walk and explore, downtown’s pub crawls are a fantastic way to discover the city’s best watering holes with a knowledgeable guide. Pub & Bar Crawls: These walking tours take you through historic areas like Printer’s Alley and Lower Broadway. They often include exclusive drink specials, historical anecdotes, and fun games. Some tours even specialize in specific themes, like the “Speakeasy Secrets: True Crime Tasting Pub Crawl,” which blends true crime stories with visits to historic bars. No matter which type of party tour you choose, you’re guaranteed to be a part of the spectacle that is downtown Nashville. It’s a place where the party is always moving, and every street corner is an opportunity for a good time.

  • The Ghost Town That Wasn’t: The Curious History of Old Jefferson Below Percy Priest Lake…
    Sep 6 2025

The Ghost Town That Wasn’t: The Curious History of Old Jefferson Below Percy Priest Lake… The tranquil waters of Percy Priest Lake, a beloved recreational area near Nashville, hold a fascinating and somewhat paradoxical secret beneath their surface – or rather, not beneath their surface. The story of Old Jefferson, a town once destined to be submerged by the lake’s creation, is a tale of early ambition, a significant historical role, and a surprising twist of fate that left it as a “ghost town” razed by human hand, not by water.. A Frontier Hub and County Seat:.. Long before the idea of a dam on the Stones River even existed, the town of Jefferson was founded in 1802 or early 1803 at a strategic fork in the Stones River. It quickly became a vital hub in the burgeoning frontier. In fact, Jefferson was the very first county seat of Rutherford County, a testament to its early importance as a center for government and commerce. The town envisioned itself as a bustling inland port, connecting with the wider world via the mighty Mississippi River.. Jefferson’s early years saw the establishment of a public square, taverns that doubled as hotels for travelers, and various craftsmen and businesses. Crops like cotton, corn, and tobacco, along with red cedar, were shipped by the thousands of tons from Jefferson, reaching ports as far away as New Orleans and Pittsburg. This period cemented Old Jefferson’s place in the early economic development of Middle Tennessee. It also holds a somber historical significance as a route for several detachments of Cherokee during the forced removal known as the Trail of Tears in 1838.. However, despite its promising start, Jefferson’s prominence as the county seat was short-lived. In 1811, the county seat was relocated to Murfreesboro, and Old Jefferson gradually evolved into a quieter farming village, though it maintained a strong sense of community and history for its residents.. The Dam’s Shadow: A Town Doomed… Or Was It? Fast forward to the mid-20th century. As plans for the J. Percy Priest Dam and Reservoir took shape, the fate of Old Jefferson became intertwined with the ambitious flood control project. Engineers calculated that the rising waters of the Stones River, once impounded by the dam, would completely inundate the town. Residents were informed that their homes and farms would be lost to the lake. Through eminent domain, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers acquired the land that comprised Old Jefferson. In preparation for the impending flood, the town was systematically dismantled. Houses were required to be moved, and if not, they were sold with the stipulation that the buyer move them, or simply burned to the ground. Buildings were bulldozed, and the once-thriving community was razed, leaving little trace of its historical structures. This occurred in the early to mid-1960s, a heartbreaking period for the long-time residents forced to leave their ancestral lands.. The Unforeseen Twist:.. A Dry Ghost Town But here’s where the story takes an unexpected turn. When Percy Priest Lake began to fill in 1968, engineers made a critical miscalculation. The water levels never reached as high as projected, largely due to unforeseen underground cave systems that absorbed and diverted the water. The land where Old Jefferson once stood remained largely above water.. Instead of becoming an underwater Atlantis, Old Jefferson became a ghost town not submerged by water, but by human demolition. The vibrant community, with its historic buildings and rich past, was intentionally destroyed for a flood that never reached it.. A Lingering Presence:.. Today, the site of Old Jefferson is a poignant reminder of this curious history. While no structures remain, the land itself is accessible to those who know where to look. History enthusiasts and former residents can still trace the faint outlines of old roads and envision where buildings once stood. The area is now part of the land managed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and is often characterized by open fields and stands of trees.. The story of Old Jefferson serves as a compelling narrative within the larger history of Percy Priest Lake. It highlights the human cost of large-scale infrastructure projects and the unforeseen consequences that can arise. Though physically gone, the memory of Old Jefferson persists, a testament to a forgotten community that played a significant role in Tennessee’s past, and whose demise was a unique chapter in the creation of a modern-day recreational haven
