On November 2, 2006, Gayle Haggard's life changed forever. That was the day that her husband, Ted Haggard, founder of the 14,000-member New Life Church in Colorado Springs and the President of the NAE, confessed to her the truth. In Why I Stayed, Gayle walks us through the choices she made in her darkest hours. On the day and in the months ahead, everything in her life was at stake - what she believed, the husband she thought she knew, and the church community she had worked tirelessly to establish with her husband and friends in the basement of their home more than two decades ago. Out of this crucible in her life, Gayle has discovered a newfound passion for the central message of the Bible - the liberating message of forgiveness and love. Why I Stayed is a must-listen. It paints a picture of what less-than-perfect people, across this nation and all over the world, desperately need - a community of family and faith that offers healing love and a path to restoration.

Not at all what I expected…surpassed anything I was thinking it may be. This has really got me rethinking my “Christian” views. Born and raised in a spirit filled home, I, until listening to Gayle’s story, always said “ cheating is a deal breaker”. And it also gave me pause as to the people who have hurt me and I thought I had forgiven them, but when I look inward, I realized I still harbored hurt and resentment towards these people. How does that show the Love of Christ?
Thank you Gayle, for sharing your story and for God allowing me to let His flashlight shine on the sin within me, so I can confess and truly live a life of Love. Live Free. And know that God’s plan is the best plan.

This is by far the best book I have ever read. So grateful to see the real true love of Christ Shown through this situation ( A revelation of how Christian can miss what Father God wants us to become and how He wants us to respond to a fallen brother sister) God-bless this family for ever! Well done Gayle, this would have turned out very differently if you were not an extremely strong woman of God!

Speechless & Overwhelmed

Eye opening inside look at what true Christian forgiveness and restoration of sinners does and does not look like from an insider. Humble, honest and biblically grounded. Her story is both heart wrenching and inspiring. Every Christian should read this asking the Holy Spirit to teach them how to love sinners into His kingdom while hating the sin. We too often get it confused to the detriment of everyone. Resulting in tarnishing the name and character of God.

This is a fantastic book on how God forgives sinners, and how Christians should do the same. The author does an excellent job of showing us the unintended consequences of ostracizing those who sin publicly and/or grievously. We all know there are particular sins that are harder to address in the church…most of them being of sexual nature. This book helps equip the church in having empathy for both the offender and those who have been offended. It also serves as a guidebook to restoring those people who must be disciplined. As the author says however, the guidebook was with us all along. This book points back to the authoritative guide book…the Bible.

A much needed perspective on Christian forgiveness!
