“An epic unprecedented in rock ’n’ roll biography . . . And it’s a great read. There’s a surprise on every page.”—Mojo
Drawing on deep archival access and great firsthand material, premier Beatles historian Merk Lewisohn shoots adrenaline and dazzling color back into the formative years of John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and Richy Starky (Ringo Starr), weaving a rich, contextual tapestry of their early lives.
If you think you know the Beatles, think again. If you’ve never read a book about them, start here. A decade in the making, Tune In is a book of unrivaled clarity, a page-turning work of easy depth and evident accuracy that establishes the Beatles’ creative passion for life and American rock ’n’ roll. Read it and be right with them in Liverpool, London, and Hamburg; trail the musical tale to New York, Los Angeles, and Detroit. The Beatles come together here in all their originality, attitude, style, speed, charisma, appeal, daring, and honesty.
Tune In is an amazing portrait of the ultimate rock band, a focused and colorful tale that builds and builds to leave four sharp lads from Liverpool on the very brink of a whole new kind of fame. Here is the Beatles story as it really was. Throw away what you think you know and start afresh.

This is part one of a trilogy of books (the other two will come out in 2020 and 2028). This part covers the early years, till Dec 1962.The sheer breadth of this project is mind boggling, and fortunately the quality of the writing and the narrator choice are excellent, and can keep you going for the 44 hours needed to finish it.
I was never a Beatles fan, but I thoroughly enjoyed the story, and I'm looking forward to 2020 for the second part!
