As an avid Horror buff, I really did enjoy this book! I love the fact that the chapters are titled after other iconic horror films, scenes were detailed so well, I felt the slashes from the clown myself! There were so slow moments where the story could have nudged forward but overall this was an excellent read!

So I actually really enjoyed this book. I loved the main character and her little nods to classic horror films before each chapter—that was such a fun touch.

It was way more gruesome than I expected though. Like, I felt like I was inside a horror movie the whole time. Super vivid. I was definitely locked in.

One thing that threw me off a little was keeping track of the side characters and their roles—I kept forgetting who was who, which made it a bit hard to follow sometimes.

Now, as for the main character being the “final girl”… she wasn’t really giving that energy for me. It felt like she mostly survived because her friend was doing all the heavy lifting. She wasn’t making smart choices, she was just lucky to have someone watching her back. But I did appreciate how honest she was—like admitting she didn’t try to save her friends because she was scared or debating if she should turn back or just keep running. That kind of raw honesty was refreshing.

The plot twist was nice too—didn’t completely shock me, but it worked.

I think I would’ve liked the book even more if I had read it instead of listening to it on Audible. Something about the narration made the twists feel a little too easy to spot before they happened. Still, it didn’t ruin the experience.

Overall, it was a solid read. Creepy, intense, and definitely entertaining.

The only thing I did enjoy was the horror movie quotes at the start of each chapter. I didn't enjoy how the character would rate her scream each time that she did. I didn't care if the characters survived because they were insufferable. I couldn't wait for the book to end.

Annoying

It delivered what it promised. It was fun, the deaths were enjoyable, and it didn’t take itself too seriously. Managed to avoid some YA traps, and doesn’t pretend teens don’t do “those kind of things”.

Hard to take a final girl seriously when she doesn’t keep a backup phone, though.
