It's just a hideously papered room. At least that's what everybody thought. But when a woman suffering from a nervous condition is housed in the room, things begin to surface from the wallpaper. Things that seem familiar but are best left quiet and undisturbed.

Published in 1892, the writing is so on point, and the story is easily understood today (2021). This could trigger depressive emotions.

This is a short but powerful and important read. The narrator for the audiobook (Audible) was made for this role. I intended to read along with my book; however, he drew me in and I was mesmerized with his reading of Charlotte Perkins Gilman's words.

Catchy moments: "A yellow smell." "It's so hard to talk with ..." "it does not do to trust people too much." "I've got out st last.".

The Yellow Wallpaper will stay with me for a very long time.

Really enthralling short story. The narrator is a poor choice, however. Overly dramatic and almost shouting. Not sure why a woman narrator wasn’t chosen for a feminist classic written as the diary of a female character.

Great story, horrible narration.
