My life has always been pretty predictable. Run into burning buildings, save those in distress, be a hero. Shoot the shit with my fireman buddies, come home, and do it all again tomorrow. Little did I know that a random SOS call from a woman stuck in a plaster cast with nothing underneath (I swear I only caught a flash of skin) would throw me for a complete loop.

Until I see the flighty artist again. At my mom's engagement party. To her dad.

Suddenly the unpredictable woman I couldn't stop thinking about is my soon-to-be-stepsister. Yeah, the same one I mortified when I accidentally saw her a tiny bit naked. This should make family gatherings way more interesting.

Except when your mom's as loaded as mine is, you can never fully let your guard down when a guy comes sniffing around. So I can't help but be suspicious, even though his daughter's the perfect blend of beautiful and wild. As we spend more time together, prepping for our parents' wedding, we both agree that maybe there's nothing wrong with having a little bit of fun in the meantime. But if she knew I was investigating her dad on the side, she would never forgive me....

Contains mature themes.

This is my first book by the author and I have long been wanting to read this book. Good thing I found this in the Audible Plus catalog, so I immediately jumped in to listen to it. The premise may sound a bit taboo, but I am happy that the author did not make it as such. The meet-cute was awkward and funny at the same time, it pretty much captivated me. I love how Tamsen can be awkward and careless and how Parker just smiled and took it all in. It is just adorable. The third-act breakup may be a bit shallow, in my opinion, but how things unraveled, together with Parker's grand gesture made it all worth it in the end. All in all, this was a wonderful start to a series set in a wonderfully compelling setting, IMO. I look forward to reading the next two in the future.

Cute and funny

Tamsen is an adorable mess—my favorite kind of FMC. Parker is perfect for her. This was fun to read!

These two are adorable together

Good story and narration. But the narrator's voice is way too deep, I have to turn my volume up so much. Something I've not had trouble with any book before.

Good but too deep voice.

I really enjoyed it. Is it top tier literature, no, but its fun and entertaining and there is nothing wrong with that. I admit as a firefighter's wife the super in shape firefighter stereotype had me busting out laughing as I looked at the chunky guy I'm married too (guess what really shows up to your house at 3am ladies lol). Overall a good fun listen and I was surprised about the number of things she got right about firefighters even in a relatively light book.

A light fun read

This was a very sweet and steamy feel good story. Tamsen is endearing and awkward and adorably accident prone. She’s quirky and unapologetically herself.

Parker is her opposite in almost every way but when they’re together he becomes the best version of himself. He sees Tamsen’s - really sees her - and it means absolutely everything.

“I know we promised to just have fun, but being with you is more than fun. It’s everything.”

Mariah Ankenman has given us a story that’s clever and flirty, playful and fun and filled with so much heart. It’s guaranteed to make you smile!

Sweet and Steamy!
