He's my best friend's brother. Off-limits. Emotionally unavailable. Out of bounds.

James Hamilton makes my heart stutter. He's six feet three inches of muscle. A decorated Royal Marine. with a jagged scar that hints at a troubled past, and glacial blue eyes that see right through my defenses.

I'm the aspiring chef who spends my days drowning in dishwater and hiding my curves under an oversized apron while I strive for my big break.

James is also the definition of off-limits. My best friend's overprotective older brother and a man who has seen too much of the world's darkness to ever notice someone like me.

Or so I thought...

Because lately, those 'protective' glances feel like so much more. The air crackles when we're alone, and the way he tensed when a stranger approaches me at the bar? That was more than brotherly instinct.

I've spent years watching him from afar, but I'm ready to show him I no longer a girl who needs saving.

James, thinks he's an antihero who can't be tamed. I'm about to prove that even a guarded billionaire marine has a breaking point...

The Unwilling Love is James & Harper's story. The emotionally charged prequel to The Unwilling Bride, featuring a forbidden love, a fiercely protective hero, a heroine finding her confidence, slow-burn tension, found family, and all the delicious tension of falling for the one man you shouldn't want.

ALC Review:
Duet Narration by Evelyn Rose and Shane East

Tropes:
Best Friend’s Brother
Grumpy x Sunshine
Slow Burn
Opposites Attract
Curvy FMC
Secret Crush

Harper has spent years quietly in love with her best friend’s older brother, James Hamilton—a guarded, emotionally unavailable Royal Marine with a troubled past. Their dynamic is filled with tension, longing, and that irresistible pull of a forbidden connection, making this a compelling setup for their larger story.

What really elevated this novella for me, though, was the narration. Evelyn Rose and Shane East deliver a standout performance that brings both characters vividly to life. Evelyn Rose captures Harper’s vulnerability and growing confidence beautifully, while Shane East embodies James’s intensity, restraint, and protective edge perfectly.

Together, they create a palpable chemistry that enhances every interaction—those quiet, tension-filled moments feel even more charged through their delivery. The emotional nuances, pacing, and character distinction made it easy to get completely immersed in the story.

Even as a prequel, this left me fully invested and, honestly, wanting more of James and Harper. If you love slow-burn, emotionally intense romance, this audiobook is absolutely worth the listen for the narration alone.

Huge thanks to Hambright PR and the author for this ALC.

I love that James and Harper knew as soon as they met that there was something between them. They just couldn't stand to separate and stayed out all night just to get to know one another. I cannot wait to see how it plays out when the The Unwilling Bride comes out!!

“The Unwilling Love” is a fabulous start to “The Hamiltons”, a new series written by L. Steele, an introduction to the two lead characters, James and Harper. He is her friend’s older brother, a Royal Marine, who is home after a secret mission. She was out dancing with her friend when he showed up and there was an instant attraction and the chemistry between them was sizzling. They have a wonderful time together, and when things get heated the over protective alpha gets all noble and their night together turns out to be a night that could have led to more, and winds up leaving you wanting, or rather, needing more instead. An alluring prequel novella to what is going to be an amazing series, and I am looking forward to see what comes next for these fabulous characters and where L. Steele takes them.

🎧📚🎧 Shane East and Evelyn Rose are the perfect cast to bring these characters to life, giving each a voice that was fitting. Both East, as the over-protective alpha, and Rose, as Harper, are superb, completely and convincingly embodying their roles. They set the ideal tone for the story, conveyed all the characters’ emotions and had you feeling them all. These two made a fabulous team, with voices and talent that complement each other and a captivating performance that hooks you to the story.

Short and sweet novella with a ton of flirtation and chemistry.

Harper meets James on a night out with her bestie. James takes her home, but not before taking her to his favourite places and getting to know her. This book is a prequel of their meet-cute that leaves you hanging and wanting their entire story.

Shane East and Evelyn Rose did an amazing job portraying Harper and James. I can't wait for the rest of their story!

Sweet flirtation, tons of chemistry
