The narrator’s pacing is inconsistent, and some words aren’t clearly articulated. The story was decent, with its strongest aspects being the characters and the potential it sets up for the next book.

It's a good story, as others have said in the style of Locke Lamora, but nowhere close to the quality of writing or storytelling. In the future, I shall search all books for the words “glowered” or “looked in askance” and if I find them I’ll not bother reading. Not sure if it’s AI or lazy editing but its a regular feature of new books. Great narration.
