They only come when it snows, and nobody ever gets away.
A group of close friends gathers at a secluded cabin in the wintry mountains of Colorado for a final holiday hurrah. Instead, it may be their last stand. First a massive blizzard leaves them marooned. Then the more chilling realization: Something is lurking in the woods, watching them, waiting....
Now a weekend of family, friends, and fun has turned into a test of love and loyalty in the face of inhuman horrors. The only hope for those huddled inside is to fight - tooth and nail, bullet and blade - for their lives. Otherwise, they’ll end up like the monsters’ other victims: bright pools of blood on glittering snow, screams lost in the vast mountains.

What do you think the narrator could have done better?
The narrator sounds like everything is an announcement. He also doesn't do female voices very well.Any additional comments?
I love horror movies but the normal horror movie set-up of 20 minutes of boring people doing boring things then 1 hour of terror only works when I can fast forward through the boring introductory part. It seems to be even worse in horror books where half the book is about getting groceries and that awkward "car talk" that every horror movie/book is required to have to prove how cooool the characters are. But this book was able to be interesting during the boring introduction by throwing in random people, killing them quickly then back to the main characters talking about about jobs and how awesome Ryan is.I agree with the other reviewers that less relationship whining would have been nice but I can see it was put there to make them more "human". I like when the characters are stupid and whiny since I don't have to feel bad when they're horribly killed and this book is full of stupid people dying mostly off screen or through the eyes of someone else.I've only found a few horror audio books I've enjoyed and I liked this one so I'm going to try some more of this author's work. What's with the title?

Where does The Shuddering rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
While a fairly decent horror story, Mr. Luke Daniels' performance was amazing. I wish I could rate it 6 Stars. It's no small thing when I say that when I first started listening to audiobooks, Mr. Daniels' performance is what I imagined. He gives the dialogue such energy, and a uniqueness. If I see a book with his name attached as narrator, I will absolutely buy it on that fact alone. Although RC Bray may be my favorite narrator so far, Luke Daniels is a close second. The horror story is, like I said, decent. Several friends having one last get-together in a fancy cabin in the middle of nowhere get attacked by monsters in the middle of one of the worst snowstorms in recent history.
However, two things I feel make this stand out is that the characters have real and unique personalities, with their own hopes and dreams, fears and wants. Makes me feel for them when the bad things start to a-happen--even the annoying one. Although they do make some stupid calls, at least they're justified at feeling right at the time and not stupid just for the sake of the plot. They're more stupid as in hindsight, as oppose to instantly feeling like a bad idea from the very beginning. I also enjoy how they even call out the fact that the beginnings sound like they're in a horror movie. The second thing is the anticipation of the horror. There's a lot of buildup in this story before things go South for the characters, and when things finally happening, it almost feels like some kind of release for the listener.
What was one of the most memorable moments of The Shuddering?
The first "on screen" character death of the main group. I was not expecting it to happen to that character. At least, not so soon.Which scene was your favorite?
When Ryan leaped in to save someone else when they got injured. I don't like going into details about this to avoid spoilers....but there's spoilers in that sentence. If you could rename The Shuddering, what would you call it?
"From the Woods", or "In the Trees"? Or..."The Cold Hunger"? I'm not sure, and I will say that the title of the book almost made me want to avoid it because of the generic "The X-ing" title.Shuddering in Anticipation.
