Nolan watches his mother commit suicide… over and over again. She died forty-five years ago. She’s a shimmer.

When the shimmers first appeared, no one knew what they were or why they had come. Speculation gave way to fear, panic to chaos. Governments collapsed. Civilization crumbled. In the Shimmering's wake, a secretive cult called the Redeemers claim biblical prophecy explains the Shimmers’ origin. Now, twenty-five years later, the line between the post-apocalyptic world and the Shimmers is indistinguishable. No one knows if they're ghosts, aliens, or the coming of God. What they do know, is that Shimmers reveal humanity’s darkest sins. The Shimmers are the least of Nolan Elwood’s worries. Secrets, betrayal, and the hope of redemption drive him on a perilous journey across America’s wasteland to find his family.

The shimmers await…

The Shimmering is a dark, Lovecraftian, post-apocalyptic tale where a religious cult worshiping a false version of Jesus brings about a twisted future. I really enjoyed this book. Warning: it is DARK. But it ends well and the journey is well worth it. Plus fantastic narration by Derek Austin, the second coming of Frank Muller.

This was a tad on the different side and enjoyed it immensely, both story and narrator.

Kept me hooked!

Such a cool and original concept. The world is ending and there are things called The Shimmers could be a place, a person, but overall they’re terrifying. In Nolan’s mother’s Shimmer he sees her commit suicide over and over again. Why is this happening and how do they stop it?

Shimmers are terrifying!
