Palm Sunday brings spring to Crofter’s Green and a deadly secret.

When a postal van crashes outside the Cozy Cup, Dorothy agrees to hold a registered parcel for the shaken driver. Minutes later, the parcel vanishes and the postman is found murdered.

The only clues are an address in London and a faint cipher that points back to St Mary’s Church.

As Alice, Blake, Harry, and Evie follow the trail, the Homefront Sleuths uncover a chilling wartime plot that could leave the village in ruins. With blackout-darkened church bells, a father’s fate hanging in the balance, and a wedding at risk, they must stop a ruthless local ring before the first bombs fall.

Narrated by the brilliant Iona Campbell, The Saint Mary’s Cipher is a charming, suspenseful wartime cozy mystery filled with clever clues, village warmth, and danger close to home.

Loving this series and each book is better than the last one if that's possible. The sleuths plus two very different dogs plus a street smart boy plus a plot that is always unfolding in different directions kept me glued to the end. The Veleys really know how to write a good book. As always the narrator does a good job and is not a distraction. Hopefully there are many more books in this series to go! After all, it's only 1942.

So glad it's only 1942!

I really like this series. This is a book the entire family could listen to on a long car trip. Characters of all ages, clever dogs, and an interesting mystery with just the right amount of tension.

Better than Maise Dobbs

Mysterious packages, murder, invisible ink, and an excursion into occupied France certainly start this book off with a bang. I look forward to every new adventure with Evie and the Hometown Sleuths, and this book did not disappoint. It is filled with all the characters Readers have come to love in the series, plus Alfie, who you may recall as a London street urchin who assisted Harry in an earlier book, got his on POV in this story. Usually, I am not a fan of multi-Points Of View. Too often they bog the story down and lead to repetition; but not so in this series. The POVs of each of the Sleuths are handled so well in these books, smoothly transitioning from one scene to another and facilitating wonderful character development. If you are looking for exciting war time activities, with not-quite-average village citizens besting Nazi spies and plots, combined with interesting characters and multi-layered stories, this is the series for you. I anxiously anticipate the next book that is scheduled for publication in June of this year (2026).

That 5 start performance rating probably says it all, but Iona Campbell's narration brings each of the characters to life.

Excellent Read

I really enjoy the cast of characters and their cooperation in solving the crimes from their very different perspectives. I appreciate how the women and their various skills are acknowledged and used equally with the men’s.

Great storyline and characters
