Arthur Miller’s deeply moving drama reunites two long estranged middle-aged brothers. Nostalgia and recrimination erupt as they sell off an attic full of furniture, their last link to a family and a world that no longer exists. This 1968 classic is a wrenching saga of plaintive gestures and missed opportunities. A co-production with the BBC.

Recorded at the BBC Broadcasting House, London in March 1989.

Directed by Martin Jenkins

Producing Director: Susan Albert Loewenberg

Excellent performances and pristine recording. Highly recommend. Minor Miller but in my mind a minor masterpiece about men, pride, aging, money and communication.

Dreyfus is fantastic

The actors in this are quite amazing and very entertaining. They kept the story going and left me wanting more. I listened to the whole thing in one sitting and would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a good play.

Great acting

Richard Dryfus Amy Irving and the rest of the cast were outstanding. Arthur Miller knows a thing or two about the Human Character and the dynamics of family life

Another Great Performance

This a stellar production, great for audio. The performances are top notch all around. If you like Miller, you'll enjoy this tremendously (although it's not one of his best plays.)

This is an excellent drama about a man who made sacrifices for his brother and his father. Years later, after their father is dead, the brothers meet in the attic of their old house with a potential buyer for the furniture left by the estate. The central character's wife joins them as well to reflect on the past.

As the man tries to negotiate the best deal for the furniture, memories come back, old stories are rehashed, and truths are revealed.

A riveting play unfolds as the characters revisit, expose, and examine their pasts.

Were the sacrifices made by the man worth it? Could he have done more with his life? It's too late to change things now.
