From New York Times bestselling author Barry Eisler...Livia Lone is back.

For sex-crimes detective Livia Lone, a position with a government anti-trafficking task force is a chance to return to Thailand to ferret out Rithisak Sorm, the kingpin behind her own childhood ordeal.

But after a planned takedown in a nightclub goes violently awry, Livia discovers that she's not the only one hunting Sorm. Former marine sniper Dox has a score to settle, too, and working together is the only way to take Sorm out.

Livia and Dox couldn't be less alike. But they share a single-minded creed: the law has to serve justice. And if it doesn't, justice has to be served another way.

What they don't know is that in threatening Sorm, they're also threatening a far-reaching conspiracy - one involving the highest levels of America's own intelligence apparatus. It turns out that killing Sorm just might be the easy part. The real challenge will be payback from his protectors.

I loved the first book in the Livia Lone series, but this second book is even better.
Chapter one starts with Livia putting an agent from homeland security down on a mat while sparring. He then tries to recruit her to work on a human sex trafficking case.
Chapter two brings Dox (from John Rain series). He gets hired to kill a man he's told is a trafficker. He realizes the man is not and and Dox refuses. When he's ambushed later he kills his three attackers and then the man who tried to hire him.
Dox and Livia accidentally end up meeting during another ambush and help each other get out of it. They end up teaming up together, and what a great team they make - in more ways than one! Livia has her hang ups from being trafficked as a child and Dox is such a sweetheart when it comes to the ladies...
This is such an exciting story, there is a dangerous situation around every corner. I started it and refused to talk to anyone until it was finished!!
Barry Eisler narrates his own books flawlessly. I really enjoy the sound of his voice.
This book is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

Livia Lone is a sex crimes detective in Seattle PD. She and her sister were kidnapped from their home in Thailand, sold to the sex slavery ring by their parents. They had been requested by a US senator and shipped to the USA in a container where she and her little sister and other young children were kept locked up, abused, and made to perform sex acts at the request of the men guarding them. In this 2nd book she is tracking down the men in Thailand who were involved in their kidnapping and mistreatment. She is ruthless but efficient in her tracking, interrogating, and dispensing justice. She connects with a former marine sniper who is on a similar mission. They join forces and proceed to track down a connection between the sex trade in Thailand and the US Defense Information Agency. Apparently the profits in this horrific practice lead all the way to the top. This is another thriller by Barry Eisler. I never thought he could invent another strong moral character along the lines of his John Rain, but he has done that with Livia Lone. Will there be more? Barry Eisler is a terrific narrator of his words.

Book two did not have the same adrenaline rush as the first book. Dox added loads of drama and excitement to the story, and Livia's life.

Book 2 was good

Barry Eisler novels, as expertly narrated by him, are the highlight of my year. I know I’m going to get action, drama, humor, suspense, horror and every emotional hook that entertains and enthralls me. If enough years pass I will listen to all novels over again in anticipation for the new book. For Livia Lone book 2 that not the case as it me 10 months before I had the courage to get to the book. I didn’t ask for a sequel and wasn’t sure I would ever get to it.
It might seem by the previous paragraph I hated Livia Lone 1 and nothing could be further from the truth. I loved the book. The strength and the reason why I kept putting off the sequel was that themes that other authors obliquely approached Eisler took head-on. It was the most poignant book I listened but exist as the only Eisler book I never want to listen to again. The beginning of the book almost broke me, I’m fighting not to cry as I type this.

There are two things that makes a sequel a smash hit and will be put reread list when I listen to all of Barry’s books again. First of all the origin story behind us and so are the graphic depictions I never want to listen to again. Second Dox is a main supporting character and he brings his massive charm and charasima. I might never listen to book one again but book two on are on the list for relistens when the time right.
One final note. This story is a direct sequel to the Dox short story that I own on Audible. That story was written and preformed years ago but takes place seconds before this book. I strongly suggest listening to it not only because it’s great but because this story is a direct follow-up to it.

Let the good times roll!
