To solve an impossible murder, you need an impossible hero …

Seventy-seven-year-old Judith Potts is blissfully happy. She lives alone in a faded mansion in Marlow, sets crosswords for The Times, and there's no man in her life to tell her what to do or how much whisky to drink.

One evening, while out swimming in the Thames, Judith witnesses a brutal murder. When the local police don't believe her story, Judith and two unlikely friends decide to investigate for themselves. Together, they are the Marlow Murder Club.

But soon another body turns up, and it seems that a real-life serial killer is at work. Now the puzzle they set out to solve has become a trap from which they might never escape …

This is an enjoyable mystery. The reader does a very good job. It is nice to have strong women, with a little bit of age under their belt, as the main characters. It is certainly a great group for further books.

Good fun story but get through the first bit until the action happens, you’ll enjoy

The story is reasonably interesting but the writing is amateurish. The author too often doesn’t reveal what’s happening through artful writing, but relies on the all-knowing narrator bluntly to tell things that a skilled writer would convey through dialogue. This can make it boring at times. Things also happen far too neatly in many instances, and what could be complex plot points are resolved simplistically. Some events are so unlikely as to not only strain credulity, but to be unbelievable. The characters have the potential to be interesting, but remain two-dimensional and our knowledge of them is superficial. This reader had the impression of a weak attempt to copy the brilliantly written Thursday Murder Club series.

I really enjoyed this one. Engaging characters and clever story! The narration was tight and very well done. I cheered them all on at the exciting conclusion.
Recommend to anyone who loves a small town mystery.
