My protective instincts irritate me sometimes. I blame my vampire side because I’ve never witnessed mages who would kill for those they love. I won’t hesitate, especially when my adopted family or one of my rescues is in danger.

When an entire group of purebloods decides they want my brother for his mental magic, and my biological dad attacks us, those protective instincts kick into gear. On top of that, I discovered the purebloods are part of a secret organization that wants to enslave the hybrids. After my brother and I are attacked a few times, our parents want us to flee to the pocket of Allure. The place where my biological family lives. The biological family who birthed my dad and ignored me while he treated me like garbage as a kid.

Because of that lovely history, I hold out until I’m given no choice. My brother and I flee to the pocket and get offered refuge with dragons. Though they’re a lot of fun, I don’t plan on staying there long. I need to save my brother, avoid getting abducted by my biological family, and figure out how to save the hybrids before the secret society enslaves us all.

This is a story from the POV of the hybrid discovered in Bug Magic.

First, let me say I listened to this title without having heard the ones that proceeded it. It didn't matter. I may have understood some things more had I listened to the books in order but even not having done so, I enjoyed this story quite a bit. It has a vast array of characters, a bad ass female main character and a well developed world.There are dysfunctional familial bonds, some appearant close relationships that are strong, and there is violence and intrigue.
Now I need to find out how these characters evolve and what tribulations they will have to endure. Maybe even go back and read the books that preceded this tome. I must say I like "Lily"s" character and that she is sassy and self sufficient...as much as any badass can be.
Thank you for introducing me into a new world with so many paranormal creatures.

Would have given a 5 Star, but Cliffhanger!!
If I known this was a cliffhanger,I would have waited until next Audible book out before starting this one. A good story and lots of action, with new characters showing up to enlarge story. Narration is nicely done and I enjoyed this book, just Hate cliffhangers!!

I am absolutely loving this series, and this novella is a great addition. Book 2.5 shifts into Lily’s point of view, the hybrid first introduced in Bug Magic, while Jen and Drake step into supporting roles. The change in perspective works well, especially with how the story expands the world and ties up loose ends from the first two books. The magic system continues to feel fresh, and I liked seeing how Lily fits into the larger arc.

CC Kline is one of my favorite narrators, and she delivered another excellent performance that made the listen even more enjoyable. I’m already excited to jump into book 3.

This is a perfect pick for anyone who enjoys paranormal romance or urban fantasy with dragons, fae, and vampires.
