From World Fantasy Award-winning author Tasha Suri comes The Isle in the Silver Sea, a heart-shattering standalone romantasy of sapphic longing, medieval folklore and a love that spans the centuries.

In an England fuelled by stories, the knight and the witch are fated to fall in love and doom each other over and over, the same tale retold over hundreds of lifetimes.

Simran is a witch of the woods. Vina is a knight of the Queen’s court. When the two women begin to fall for each other, how can they surrender to their desires, when to give in is to destroy each other?

As they seek a way to break the cycle, a mysterious assassin begins targeting tales like theirs. To survive, the two will need to write a story stronger than the one that fate has given to them.

But what tale is stronger than The Knight and the Witch?

Critic reviews

"Fiercely tender, wildly imaginative, and deeply smart, The Isle in the Silver Sea is an ode to the power of stories themselves--both to shackle us to our destinies, and to free us from them. One of my new all-time favorites."—Alix E. Harrow, New York Times bestselling author of Starling House
"A magnificent story about the strength of stories, full of grand love, adventure, and beauty! Completely captivating!"—Sarah Beth Durst, New York Times bestselling author of The Spellshop
"Simmering with tension and heartbreak, The Isle in the Silver Sea combines familiar folklore with a wholly original plot, coming together into a devastating tale of love, devotion, and fate. Vina and Simran’s story of duty and sacrifice is threaded with hope through steadfast found family and love that outlasts death and eternity. Suri is a master storyteller."—Tori Bovalino, author of Not Good For Maidens
The Isle in the Silver Sea is a magnificent fantasy. Unapologetically queer, fiercely inclusive, and full to the brim with the extraordinary magic of stories, this is truly a masterpiece.” —Sangu Mandanna, author of The Very Secret Society of Irregular Witches
"The Isle in the Silver Sea swept me off my feet with its lyricism, spellbinding romance, and vivid characters who breathe, love, and bleed. Gorgeously folkloric. This book is a bit of spellcraft and Suri is definitely a witch."—Brigitte Knightley, author of The Irresistible Urge to Fall for Your Enemy

What I appreciate most about Tasha Suri’s tales are the complexities. With other authors you anticipate the end and the happily ever after, but with Suri you’ll realize there are 8 more hours. Tuck away the easy answers. The “happily ever after” isn’t the aim, and that makes each book or tale more worthwhile. Even in fantastical worlds the weight of life and choices, and living is real because it tells the tale of relationships. It tells the tales of the messy and complicated ways we know, or love, or hate the “others” that play a role in our own personal lives.
The author weaves the familiar with the unfamiliar adding saver and spice to what on the surface are the contrived and tired tales of tropes. And most impressive she illustrates how characters can love each other even when they disagree, or dislike choices.
I eagerly watch for whatever Tasha Suri puts out next.

Smart, complex, seasoned.

Such a beautiful, rich story. I loved every minute. My only complaint is that it feels too compact. As an avid fan of Tasha Suri, I feel this story would have thrived as a duology or trilogy. Such a decadent world that could be explored.

Captivating

The writing is exquisite, a long and winding tale that kept me interested and engaged the whole time. The world building is unique and the allegories make this story more than just a fairy tale, but instead a story of our ever changing world.

The Isle in the Silver Sea by Tasha Suri has left a deep impression on my soul. This will be one of a very small set of books that I re-read frequently!

This is a story about many things, which is part of what makes it so fascinating and layered. It's a story about stories, information, authority, immigrant experiences, fate, love, chosen family, feelings of otherness, magic, and many more. I fell in love with Simran and Vina, and watching their journey unfold was delightful. The intermittent humor helped to add levity during times of strife for the characters.

I really appreciated the side characters too, who we got to learn more about throughout the book.

For the audiobook, the narrator Shiromi Arserio was a wonderful choice - I can't imagine anyone else voicing Vina and Simran!

Fascinating tale about stories and love

Great audiobook but the reader doesn’t pronounce the italicized words at all. Small issue great book
