Virtual voice is computer-generated narration for audiobooks.

When a historian disappears from a decrepit Selma mansion, haunted dreamer Carrie Jo is asked to help locate the missing woman. Armed with her ability to dream about the past and with the aid of a familiar ghost, the dream catcher gets to work.

Hoping to unravel the mystery quickly she decides to stay at the lonely manor house and through her dreams uncovers the forgotten Starlett family history. As she discovers the paranormal reports are true and that she has become a target of the angry spirits, she must quickly work to settle the score on their behalf. Or join their ranks as a ghost of Gracefield.

Amara Cooper experienced a level of terror most people wouldn’t understand. Not only was she targeted by a dead man but she was also held captive by him until Carrie Jo intervened. But the Widowmaker hasn’t given up on possessing her. In the meantime, the dangerous entity has keyed in on the most vulnerable member of the Stuart family. In order to get a better grip on the house's tragic history, Carrie Jo begins her paranormal work. It isn't long before she uncovers heartbreaking secrets.

As the family pulls together to help Amara, and the dead that are trapped at Gracefield, they step into the fight of their lives. But the long dead Native American shaman, White Fire isn’t going to go quietly. Amara slowly realizes that she must make right one last wrong. Is there a way to bring peace to the unhappy ghost or will the entity remain at Gracefield with no hope for redemption?

Will it cost Amara her current life? Lily makes unexpected alliances when a ghost boy follows her home from school. AJ takes the brunt of a violent haunting but Lily won’t allow him to fight this spirit alone. Carrie Jo uncovers a startling artifact but will the item steal her powers? Will she give up dream catching forever?

If you are a fan of M. L. Bullock's southern gothic Seven Sisters series you'll be familiar with Carrie Jo and her unique abilities. You can read this series by itself but if you would like the full Carrie Jo experience the suggested reading order is The Ultimate Seven Sisters Collection, The Idlewood Collection, Return to Seven Sisters and now the Gracefield Hauntings.

The Gracefield Hauntings contains all the three books of this collection: Haunted Gracefield, The Three Graces and Grace Before Dying. If you like Hill House, you must read the Gracefield Hauntings!

I agree with all the other reviews that the virtual voice is definitely not as pleasing and theatric as a real person. However, I receive this audiobook as part of my monthly membership.

However, the story itself was really good. I like how it goes back generations and generations, but they’re all tied together and how it takes different POV. Also, I like how book one and book 2 and book 3 see the characters grow. For example, Lily in the book 1 was much more innocent and naïve, but as you progress to the third book, you see how much she’s grown and matured into a young teen.

Overall, I’ll definitely be looking for more books from this author.

I’ve grown to acclimate to the virtual voice definitely not my first choice, but I understand it probably cost a lot to produce with a real voice actor, especially for books that are not mega sellers like Frieda McFadden’s novels from big publishers.

Although I do enjoy a human voice, and the theatrics. I am accepting of a virtual voice narrator if that’s the only option. I still think the virtual voice in audiobook is more realistic compared to Alexa or Siri.

Really good story, I was hooked!

The story itself was really fascinating. I have always enjoyed M. L. Bullock’s series. Especially the Gulf Coast Paranormal series. This is the first one I’ve heard using virtual voice. I find I have a hard time getting into the story because the voice has an empty, uncanny valley quality. It’s distracting and I found it hard to finish the book. As much as I like her stories, I won’t be buying any more of them that use virtual voice.

AI narration is unpleasant to listen to.

Pronunciation by AI was off at times. Still like to have human voices reading the books.

Loved the story line!

The storyline itself was very good held my attention and was exciting but the virtual voice with no emotion and no emphasis just really detracted from the story.

Virtual voice ruins the story.
