A blink of an eye.
That was all it took for my world to end. For it to literally crumble beneath my feet.
The Rift that tore through the land and opened it up to unearthly danger.
After that, everything changed, and I had to change with it. Any hopes for the future I may
have had, now lost and a new me forced to be reborn.
Each day in this brutal new world was a fight for survival. One filled with living nightmares
and all those myths and monsters I had once read about as a kid. But there was one
important thing I had never learned about in school…
Him.
The General.
The leader of them all.
Now, the biggest question was…
What did he want with me?
That penetrating stare, those dark depths searching out my soul.
That frighteningly handsome face that consumed my dreams.
Those strong hands reaching out for me. Enticing me.
His deep voice luring me closer and closer to the danger within.
Until suddenly, I wake to find myself…
The General’s Captive.

The Rift Series #
1 by Stephanie Hudson & E.M. Ritchie
Performed in multicast duet by Amanda Leigh Cobb, James Cassidy & Ryan Lee Dunlap
What a cool story.
I really loved this dystopian world filled with mythological creatures and danger at every corner. The Rift concept was intense from the start, the world literally cracks open and suddenly myths aren’t myths anymore. Survival is brutal, and the stakes are high.
Alex, our FMC, was such a standout for me. She has a funny, sarcastic inner monologue, she’s strong-willed, and she doesn’t just roll over when things get hard. I loved her resilience and the way she adapts to this terrifying new world.
And the MMCs?
We have:
* a sexy GI Joe-type soldier (her description, not mine 😏)
* and a broody, mysterious General who absolutely commands every scene he’s in
Both are intriguing in very different ways, and I cannot wait to see where these relationships go.
Now let’s talk about the AUDIO.
The narration made this incredible.
Amanda Leigh Cobb was amazing, I loved every nuanced line delivery and emotional shift. She brought Alex to life perfectly.
James Cassidy? Spectacular. I swear I felt those growls in my bones.
And Ryan Lee Dunlap has such a strong, captivating voice, I definitely need to listen to more from him.
What a great cast. What great production.
That ending was unexpected, and I am absolutely ready for book two.
Story: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✨ (4.5)

The General’s Captive by Stephanie Hudson & E.M. Ritchie delivers a dark, atmospheric story that blends power, control, and mystery in a way that keeps you hooked from start to finish. The tension is constant—like you’re always waiting for the next reveal or emotional gut punch.
The narration? 🔥
With Amanda Leigh Cobb, James Cassidy, and Ryan Lee Dunlap performing in duet/multicast, the story feels alive. Each voice adds depth, and the emotional delivery really elevates those intense moments. You can FEEL the push-and-pull between the characters.
The vibes are dark fantasy meets captivity trope with a strong, underlying sense of danger and intrigue. There’s definitely a slow unraveling of secrets, and the dynamic between the main characters keeps you questioning motives the whole time.
Immersive world-building

I was surprisingly entertained by this. The narrators were great, I always love Amanda, and as usual she did a great job. Despite this being a dark fantasy romance with an apocalyptic aspects it was considerably lighter than what I usually read. I also like the inclusion of the mythological creatures.
It wasn't very deep emotionally but that was made up for just by being an entertaining read. I mean there are Ajax goat bombs... Do with that information what you will
Surprised
