Well written, good characters, interesting magic system, excellent narrator. More of a political drama than an action adventure, but still a solid work overall. Recommended.

I absolutely love the Starsea audio books, and I'm glad Kyle West decided to do this backstory alluded to in the original series. His writing along with the wonderful narration is absolutely captivating. While many book have places that drag, I've found that none of his books, including this one, drag at all.

The writing is coherent and smooth, which allow the listener to become fully immersed.

My only disappointment is that I now have to wait for the other books to come out, and that I can't just download and listen to the whole series in one go like I did with the Starsea cycle.
