When Vera—tall, brilliant of mind, and newly proud of her magefolk heritage—marries Mr Faulkner and leaves Pink, Oklahoma, for a fresh start in Geneva with her husband, she hopes distance will dull the shadows that have haunted her. Then, as Vera is beginning to settle down in her villa, she learns that her mother, who was a griffen, whom everyone thought was dead. However, Vera learns that her mother is not dead but alive and eager to know her daughter better.

As loyalties blend, alliances form, and old magics stir beneath Geneva’s calm and beautiful land. Vera, Mr Faulkner, and Gwendy must confront the truth of what Dougal wants—and what they are willing to risk to stop him. Secrets will be revealed. Choices will demand courage.
