This gripping audiobook by celebrated Ukrainian Canadian author Marsha Forchuk Skrypuch follows two sisters as they struggle to survive the Russian invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.

Twelve-year-old twin sisters Rada and Dariia Popkova couldn’t be more different. Dariia is outgoing and chatty while Rada is quieter and artsy. But what they have in common is their love for each other and their home. The family lives in the Ukrainian city of Mariupol, which is attacked by the Russians on Feb 24th, 2022. The attack separates the family—Dariia is with her mom and Rada with her dad.

The thrilling conclusion to this trilogy will have listeners reaching for tissues on the edge of their seats.

While visiting my Polish great grandmother on my summer vacations in north Jersey, I remember her talking to our neighbor Rosie. I was just a kid and Rosie was a sweet woman who was always happy with our visits. I had noticed her accent was different than my grandmother and great grandmothers but they still talked and laughed together. I asked, was Rosie from Poland too? I was told no, she was Ukrainian. Not really knowing the difference, I assumed it was near Poland as they understood each other. Each summer as I looked forward to our summer visits with family, I also looked forward to seeing Rosie, our Ukrainian friend. Thank you for enlightening me and waking up what time seems to make disappear.
