The year is 1886. It is winter on the plains and prairies of western Kansas. The area around Dodge City is the epicenter of the Kansas cattle industry. Fort Dodge which was scheduled to be closed down in 1882, continues to maintain a company of men at the insistence of those on the plains still fearful of the extremely diminished chance of Indian attacks and the rising lawlessness of the area.
On January 6th, the first of multiple severe winter storms hits the plains. Temperatures plummet and the winds increase in intensity. Life comes to a standstill as the residents think they are waiting out a single storm. As one day turns to two and then three, there is grave concern for the survival of man and beast.
As drifts reach as high as ten feet, the area is cut off. Animals and people are dying because of the extreme cold. And people are dying because of something else. There is something in the snow. It is almost invisible as it moves from place to place causing misery, mayhem and death.
The worst blizzard in Kansas history is the perfect place for the most dangerous creature on the plains to move about unseen and become ruler of all it surveys. This is the time of the Albino.
