Their marriage is to save a warring kingdom. But in the process, it might destroy them both. Born with forbidden, nature-infused magic in an occupied land, anxious apothecary Meilyr survives by keeping his head down. Until he ends up engaged to invading prince Osian in order to save his brother's life. Now, he is in a deadly game of cat-and-mouse to hide his true self.

When nobles in Osian's court are gruesomely murdered by the same magic that flows through his veins, Meilyr realises someone is seeking revenge for his homeland. As suspicion towards him grows, he and the prince work together to uncover the killer or risk losing the crown – or their lives.

Between court politics, unwieldy magic and a murderer on the loose, Meilyr must keep his wits about him. Especially as his feelings for Osian grow deeper with every passing day…

This book had such prose, such Life, such everything and I was LITERALLY in tears at the end.

Beautiful, Gorgeous, HeartWrenching

I’m not gonna lie, all the characters are very vanilla and somewhat predictable ? And I was able to figure out the twist in the first quarter of the book which is a rare one for me !! HOWEVER !! I loved it, great prose and great story line, very excited for the rest of the series and honestly would highly recommend !!

Compelling and addicting

THIS IS NOT A ROMANCE. This is HIGH fantasy with a very slow queer romantic subplot and some botanical horror.

Is it a good story? Yes. Is it spicy? No. It’s suuuuper slow burn with very little payoff. It’s I guess fade to black? It’s somewhere between fade to black and the lowest level of actual spice. We do all the lead up, but there’s no ‘he stuck it in’ just ‘when it was done.’

I bought it (physical copy) because it was A. In the romantasy section. B. The cover was gorgeous and the inside pic of the boys kissing and c. the blurb on the back. If I’d read the description that’s on fable about it being a retelling of the historical occupation of England and Wales—would have never picked it up. Because it was…too much of that for me personally. There was a lot of faux history and ridiculous spellings of names and places and things.

It was just too slow for me. And I was expecting romance. And even in closed door books, you can have romance. And I don’t know how you could possibly have romance in book 2 because of the end of this one.

It’s a 3.5 for me. I was frustrated by just how slow it was, but I thought I’d get a good payoff. But instead I got tiny glimmer of payoff and an awful ending.

Anyway, there’s a book 2 coming eventually but I won’t be continuing the series. I wasn’t a huge fan of the voice actor. Glad the audio was free. But I do still love the hardcover. It’s beautiful. Just didn’t match expectations for where it was shelved / how the book looked with giant character art of your two MMCs kissing.

This book is a beautiful slow burn romance and when I say slow I mean SLOW. The plot is so interesting and had me engaged the entire time. I NEEED the second book in a way a parched person needs water I will wait as long as it takes.

This is so serious
