Once in a lifetime

Three low-income families have been given a handsome retainer to join Geraldine Borden for a day at her cliffside estate. All the parents must do to collect the rest of their money is allow their children to test out the revolutionary playground equipment Geraldine has been working on for decades. But there’s a reason the structures in the bowels of her gothic castle have taken so long to develop—they were never meant to see the light of day.

When a band of dysfunctional children is suddenly thrust into a diabolical realm of violence, they must grow up instantly to have a chance at survival. Will they find a way to put their differences aside, or be swallowed up by the insidious architecture all around them?

"With Playground, Aron Beauregard transcends himself, delivering a genuinely chilling, uncomfortable novel that will make even the most jaded horror fan squirm. A harrowing, relentless read that left me breathless." (Brian Keene)

Thanks to Aaron, I think I now know the true definition of "extreme splatterpunk." A couple of chapters close to the beginning had me screaming insults at my car radio. The entire book is an exercise in discomfort, so if you aren't prepared for it, you shouldn't pick this tome, perhaps even this author. (This is my first Beauregard book.)

By the time I finished, not only did I decide that I was wrong in nearly setting it down (turning it off, in this case), but the ending left me satisfied and feeling vindicated.

Lila Kerry does a fantastic job narrating, making sure to add inflection and personality for the different characters. I appreciate that in a good narrator.

Masterfully done, Mr. Beauregard. Masterfully done indeed. Kudos to Lila as well. Hat's off to you both.

Not for the weak-stomached.

This book is soooo good! I’m excited to read more of Aron’s books. Definitely recommend it for anyone interested in gore and suspense, I’m definitely going to buy the physical copy just to keep as a souvenir. Thank you Aron Beauregard for awakening my inner child.

GOOD S***

Creepy and brutal definitely not a book for everyone but if you are in too real horror and brutal books you need to add this in to your collection🫶

The author tries to be overly descriptive in places where it’s totally unnecessary. The scene about how Geraldine met her nazi friend went on for way too long. This is recurring theme. He also reused the same metaphors and phrases to the point it made me roll my eyes. I finished this out of spite alone.

Bad writing, cool concept, annoying narrator

I chose to read this after hearing about it on TikTok. It was just as gruesome as I hoped. I absolutely loved it!
