The Powerful Concluding Novel to The Restoration Chronicles

When news that the wall of Jerusalem is broken down and its gates have been burned with fire, Nehemiah, Jewish cupbearer to King Artaxerxes in Persia, seeks God's guidance. After fasting and prayer, he's given leave to travel to Jerusalem and rebuild the city wall, not anticipating all the dangers that await him on his arrival. The leaders of the surrounding nations become his fierce enemies, plotting to assassinate him and halt the work. A drought, meanwhile, has left the country impoverished, many families resorting to selling their children as bondservants just to keep from starving.

Capturing the rebuilding of the wall through the eyes of a number of characters, On This Foundation is a powerful exploration of faith in the midst of oppression and hope that, in spite of appearances, the gracious hand of God is upon those who believe.

The story of Israel's spiritual and historical struggle to exist as a people and as a nation is intriguing.Nehemiah is a prophet that most people don't know. His vital part in raising the walls from the ashes of the Persian and Babylonians wars is well developed.

This was not just entertainment. It was a reminder of who God is and how perceptions of Him differ based on our experiences. I was constantly reminded of His goodness. Great series!!

This book was entertaining, and it made me curious to reread Nehemiah again. I do love how Lynn Austin develops her characters so that every major character experiences growth. I wouldn’t call this a deep book or a literary work of art, but it has deep truth woven into the story. The book brings to life characters that could have been living in that time of the Bible, and it made it more fun to read the actual biblical account and have more to think about what it would have been like at that time.

Wholesome and Based on the Biblical Account
