A young boy from Paris is desperate to return to the only school where he feels safe.

In a dystopian Paris where the government hunts those who are different, parents fear for their children. To keep them from getting killed, some send their children to a secret boarding school: Miss Gifty's School.

In the Montmartre district, Christopher-Georges, 11, tries not to dwell on the fact that he won't be going to the same school as his childhood friends. What matters to him is to make it through the year in this strange school and to make friends.

When Christopher-Georges discovers that some students are mysteriously falling into comas, his hopes to have finally found a safe place are shattered. He understands that he never stood a chance in this dangerous society.

Between strange discoveries, terrible rivalries, and the enemy closing in, Christopher-Georges finds a strength inside of him. The strength to fight for his right to exist.

For gifted kids, life can be rough. When C.G. is sent off to a boarding school at 11 years old, by himself, he feels abandoned. His parents seem consumed by his baby sister. He knows no one, and wonders why they don't want him any more. But he finds some new friends, each of which has their own story and quirks. They discover the secret of the school, and band together to overcome what the adults have done. A good listen for middle-graders, read by the author.
