Mrs. Hudson is possibly the most famous landlady in literature. Presiding over 221B Baker Street, she saw many clients, villains, and Baker Street Irregulars during the tenancy of Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson. This series of columns, thoughts, recipes, and memoirs are from a long-running column in the Sherlockian journal Canadian Holmes. In it, the author, Wendy Heyman-Marsaw, puts herself in Mrs. Hudson's shoes, up and down the 17 steps, and recounts not only the time and era - but the food, dining, and eating habits of Victorian England.

The book is only about three hours long. Each chapter covers a certain segment of Victorian England. For example, the importance of tea, the different type of inns, the different passenger cars used on trains etc.....The chapter will then provide details of when Sherlock and Holmes experienced this and in which story...The chapter will end with several recipes that would have been served by a host or Mrs. Hudson during this event...I think that if you like a recipe, you will have to bookmark the spot in the audiobook and then go back later to review. Overall, a nice historical review of both Victorian England and Sherlock Holmes.

Very interesting set of reminiscences and antidotes from Mrs. Hudson’s perspective. The book provides an overview the places Holmes & Watson visited and menus used during Victorian times. It also provided of a glimpse into Mrs. Hudson’s personal history. Best of all, there are plenty of recipes of the foods served during the Victorian era. The narration was outstanding.
