I love the Mass Effect universe. I thoroughly enjoyed playing through all the games and when I saw there are Mass Effect books, I immediately spent Audible credits. "Shut up and take my money, Audible!" So, about the book itself, there was a very brief plot build-up about the First Contact War in the very beginning of the book, which I got super excited about. I thought "Oh, man! How cool! A war novel about the First Contact War!" but I was wrong. After this brief mention the rest of this book is pretty much all about how Saren and Anderson met and what led Saren to become a Reaper agent. I mean, I really enjoyed this book, and I bought the other two consecutive ones in the series. There's some really cool character development you see here that you would have never been able to see in the games. If you are a real Mass Effect fan you would happily give your money to Audible (or get these books from the library) and listen/read the entire series.

If you could sum up Mass Effect in three words, what would they be?

Excellent Introduction to ME.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Mass Effect?

I'd have to say that when Saren, Anderson & Skarr meet up for the first time at Grissom's house to duke it out. To me, that was the tipping point of the story. From there, the whole rest of the story fell into place with chasing down Edan Had'dah on Camala.

Have you listened to any of David Colacci’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

This was my first book narrated by mr. Colacci. He did an excellent job capturing the voices for the characters.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Well having played the video game prior to the book I had an idea of what the Artifact was the whole time. It was a great segue into the video game and prepared the reader/listener for whats to come in the video game.

Any additional comments?

Overall a good read/listen. A great segue into the video game series! The story was a little shaky, pretty cut and dry. I thought there would be more background on Saren, but you do get a sense of his personality going into the video game. If you're a fan of the series, it's a must read!
