In Anabelle Bryant's latest novel of ardor and ambition, a lord will stop at nothing to possess the woman of his dreams....

In monetary matters, Jeremy Lockhart, Viscount Dearing, is used to being in control, but from his first sight of Lady Charlotte, his carefully cultivated world is rocked to its foundations. Determined to best her other, more eligible suitors, he goes to great lengths to ensure his betrothal to Charlotte. A locked black leather box holds the dark secret that has assured his success.

Innocent Lady Charlotte is baffled by her fiance's behavior. Why does Lord Dearing seem so distant one day, and so attentive the next? Her family's dire financial straits did not allow her the luxury of an extended courtship. If only she could entice him into the marriage bed! When at last Charlotte's efforts are rewarded, she revels in Jeremy's unexpectedly bold possessiveness. But outside of their bedchambers, her groom's guardedness quickly returns. Passion is no longer enough for sweet Charlotte, who vows to unlock the mystery of this complicated man. The truth, however, might be more than her principled heart is prepared to handle....

If you read enough romance novels you see the formula most writers used. It’s pretty standard. Which is why most readers enjoy books with unique plots and different premises. Unfortunately, although this book has a unique premise I found the financial premise confusing and the Mallory plot not usual except for entailing half the ton in the denouement. No book needs two plots! Not only was the book confusing but it was also boring. I finished it because I have a personal goal of always finishing a book. But I had already guessed she would end the story as she did for both plots; publicly and privately.

Come on snap out of it...the shy guy routine just fell short. The weird neighbor with constant wedding proposals without reasons. I'm not at all clear how to feel about this story.

I like ld the fact that they were already married, it gave a different perspective. the story was very well written, however I did skip a little but only when the inside thoughts got in the way of the story moving along. the narration was good too. overall I enjoyed it very much. I will be seeking more by this author.

If I could have just sat in my car until this story finished, I would have. There were plenty of secrets that could have derailed their marriage, but Charlotte and Jeremy finally realized what was most important. I enjoyed Charlotte's blossoming as Jeremy basically courted her. She was more confident, and her intelligence shone through in their interactions. Jeremy's determination to have what he wanted but too guilt-ridden to take it completely actually endeared him to me, making him more human. I highly recommend this story. The narration by Victoria Aston brought the characters to life and was a pleasure to listen to on my way to and from work.

This is my unsolicited review.

Loved the narration and the story.
