I listened to the audiobook version of London by Night, and overall, I really enjoyed the experience, especially thanks to the narrator. Simon B. Kelly does a fantastic job bringing the story to life. His voice fits the tone perfectly and really pulls you into the dark, foggy streets of London. It made the listening experience feel immersive and engaging from start to finish.

The story itself has a lot going for it. I really enjoyed the historical setting and the moody, gaslit atmosphere, it adds so much depth to the mystery. I also liked the partnership between James and Louise, and the investigation kept me curious enough to keep listening.

Having read the Dolocher series, I especially appreciated getting more of James’s backstory here. It added an extra layer to his character and made the experience feel richer, like I already had a bit of connection to him going in.

That said, I did feel a bit unsatisfied by the end. Some parts of the story felt like they needed more closure, and I was left with a few unanswered questions that I wish had been explored further.

Overall, it’s a solid start to a series with a strong atmosphere and excellent narration. Just be prepared for a bit of lingering mystery even after it’s over.

LONDON BY NIGHT, Audio book - I always like the books by this author and this is my first audiobook. I found the book interesting with good characters and plenty of intrigue. I like the narrator Simon B. Kelly. He does a great job with the different characters, including one that sounds like James Mason. Source: StoryOrigin and GhostCreative.

London by Night: Detective James Mystery Thrillers, Book 1, my seventeenth read from author European P. Douglas. A well-written, entertaining traditional detective mystery read, very Holmesian in tone, with an intriguing, well-developed main character. 8-hours 59-minutes/300-pages that I read in a single setting. “I received a complementary Audible of this book & aloso own the Kindle copy and am voluntarily leaving a review." The gifting of this book did not affect my opinion of it. I'll be reading more from this author with The Light Beneath the Cauldron (The Alderman James Mystery Thriller Series Book 4) already on my TBR list. (RIP Marley January 20, 2014 - July 24, 2018).

Another super retired Alderman James mystery. European P Douglas has just become a favorite mystery author for me. Years ago in an old black and white movie, there were two older gentlemen that would get together and plot out different murder scenarios. I could see Mr. Douglas and friend plotting out this very complicated plot. I thought this mystery was solved many times then twist...turn... we were off again.

I was gifted an Audible version of this book from the author through Story Origin. The narrator, Simon B Kelly, works perfectly for these characters and this time. Very English. Very easy to understand. 5 stars for him as well.
