In a medieval land four identical brothers, in the guise of one prince, battle a mysterious evil.

A riveting tale of fantasy and adventure, Kinghood follows the secret lives of quadruplets Symon, Dawkin, Ely, and Gerry. Since birth, they have taken turns serving as their island’s monarch-in-waiting, Prince Jameson. Through careful planning, they have managed to cultivate the image of a perfect royal, a rising star within their kingdom. Handsome. Strong. Intelligent. Charismatic. A natural-born leader.

But such an icon has come at a cost. The alliance between brothers is fragile and taut, with each different in personality and ambition, eager to make their own mark on the world.

In the midst of this darkness and intrigue, their father the king is assassinated. Chaos ensues. Allies talk of usurping the throne while murderers and plotters seem to stalk every corner. Forced to put aside their differences, the brothers unite to face their enemies and rise as one.

I really really wanted to love this book. The summary sounded like everything I'd love in a book, and the sample sounded pretty good as well. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to get too far into the story. I didn't realize the narration had sound effects--which of themselves aren't a bad idea, and I've listened to books with sound effects done well, like a lot of the Star Wars stories. But the effects here weren't done very well. An internal thought echo effect here was off-putting enough that I had to turn the book off almost every time it came up. I've very very rarely come across a book I couldn't listen to in around 800 audiobooks read, and never before had an issue with a book after thinking the sample sounded okay.

I gave listening a good eight or nine tries, hoping it would get better, before I had to put this one down and sadly move on. I gave the story four stars because it sounded great from the description, and I really wish I could have read it.

If you're sensitive to sounds or don't like sound effects in a narration, you might read with caution until you've found if you can handle this one or not.

Good story

enjoyable listen; the story alone is very narrative and then add the sound affects and the narrators animation makes an overall excellent audiobook and a must listen.

Fun read that features royal siblings and the challenges that brings. The book includes detailed descriptions that allowed me to envision both the setting and the characters. I enjoyed the story and twists. The one thing that I would have changed were the audio effects which were unneeded and took away from the story. Otherwise I really enjoyed this novel and would recommend the series to other readers. I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

I loved this epic medieval tale of quadruplet brothers. It follows their efforts to live up to their father's legacy and plans for the future...as one Prince. It was a fascinating premise. Josh's world building skills were unparalleled and I was completely immersed in this action-filled adventure. I HIGHLY recommend it to lovers of books along the lines of Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit.

David Nickerson does THE BEST job as 'The Storyteller' for that's just what he does. Interspersed with the wonderful sound effects, all that was missing was for my eyes to "see", it was that spectacular.

This is a DON'T MISS IT Book. 5 Plus STARS!!
